Maximilian Jenius, commonly called Max, is a veteran ace pilot and the commanding officer of the Macross 7 fleet. In the OVA Macross 7 Encore, he serves as a supporting character, building on his established role from the original Macross 7 television series. Born in Europe, Max joined the United Nations Spacy during Space War I and quickly proved to be an extraordinarily talented pilot, known for his near-invincible skill in the Battroid cockpit. His quiet and unassuming personality often surprised those around him, yet he earned the high regard of his comrades through his affable and courteous demeanor. While he adheres strictly to military protocol during missions, he is not above occasional egotistical musings when off duty.
As commander of the 7th Macross Fleet and captain of the battle carrier Battle 7, Max bears the responsibility of leading humanity’s colonization mission into deep space. He is also the estranged husband of Milia Fallyna Jenius, the mayor of City 7, and the father of their youngest daughter, Mylene Flare Jenius, who is a member of the rock band Fire Bomber. Despite their separation, Max and Milia maintain near-daily contact due to their professional duties, and there are hints that Max continues to harbor feelings for her. The events of Macross 7 Encore highlight a turning point in their relationship: in one episode, the pair ride a VF-22 to the Meltrandi fleet and share a kiss, signaling a gradual reunion.
