Movie
Description
Haruka Shitow is a 29-year-old officer within the TERRA organization who plays a central role in the film RahXephon: Pluralitas Concentio. Originally holding the rank of major in the Intelligence Division, she is later promoted to captain in the Tactical Division. Her most significant act is being partially responsible for aiding Ayato Kamina in leaving the sealed reality of Tokyo Jupiter, the domed barrier that has isolated the city from the outside world.

The movie adaptation places Haruka's personal journey at the forefront of the narrative, shifting the focus to her mission to reclaim what she lost twelve years prior. She infiltrates Tokyo Jupiter to reach Ayato, utilizing a dangerous low-altitude drop from a fighter to enter the barrier. Her primary objective is singular and clear: to get Ayato back and bring him outside the dome. She is driven by a deep, unresolved love for Ayato, stemming from their childhood. It is revealed that the girl Ayato constantly sketches and paints is actually a young Haruka, and they had fallen in love when they were younger. However, when the Tokyo Jupiter barrier was established, Haruka was outside on vacation, causing her to age naturally while time inside the dome slowed dramatically. As a result, she is now an adult woman while Ayato remains a teenager, creating a profound and awkward distance between them.

Personality-wise, Haruka is a determined and capable officer, yet she struggles internally with her dual role as a military operative and a woman in love. Her position within TERRA often makes Ayato suspicious, leading him to believe that she is only using him as a weapon for his unique ability to pilot the god-like being RahXephon. She finds herself in a painful contradiction, having to support Ayato as a soldier while being unable to easily reveal the truth of her identity as Haruka Mishima, his former girlfriend, due to the complex and cruel circumstances of their separation.

Her most crucial relationship is with Ayato Kamina. Her former identity is Haruka Mishima, and her current last name, Shitow, comes from her mother's remarriage. In the film, as Ayato moves toward his true awakening and fusion with the RahXephon, the fate of the world becomes threatened. Haruka is faced with a devastating motivation: to prevent global destruction, she may be forced to kill the very person she fought so hard to rescue. This places her in a critical role as both the catalyst for Ayato's escape and the potential key to his destruction. Unlike the television series, the movie condenses and focuses on her struggle, using her perspective to drive the emotional core of the retold story. Her abilities are not combat-oriented but lie in her resolve, her strategic position within TERRA, and her deep personal connection to the instrumentalist Ayato, which makes her indispensable to the mission.
