Description
Haruka Nanami is the central heroine and a composer at the Shining Talent Agency, where she creates music for the idol group ST☆RISH. Her journey begins when she enrolls at the prestigious Saotome Academy with a deeply personal aspiration: to write a song for her favorite idol, Hayato. Her childhood was marked by poor health, which led her to live with her grandmother in the countryside. During a difficult moment in the city, she heard Hayato's music, which calmed and inspired her, setting her on the path to becoming a composer. While she learned to play the piano from her grandmother, she possessed no formal ability to read sheet music upon her arrival at the academy, a challenge she would have to overcome.

Haruka is known for her shy, honest, and optimistic personality. Despite being somewhat restless, she remains confident even on unlucky days and is an exceptionally hard-working individual. She has a gentle and caring nature, though she can be clumsy and naive, particularly when it comes to recognizing the romantic feelings that many of the idols develop for her. When focused on composing music, she has a tendency to become completely engrossed in her work, often retreating into her own world. This dedication and her innate talent for creating beautiful melodies have earned her the nickname Goddess of Music from industry veterans. Her ability to understand and move people's hearts through her compositions is a defining trait.

Within the story, Haruka serves as the primary composer for ST☆RISH, and her creative output is central to the group's success. Her role significantly evolves by the time of Utano☆Princesama Revolutions. Having previously won the prestigious Uta☆Pri Award, she is now a professional composer working not only on songs for her idol group but also on melodies for commercials. She finds herself at the center of a new showbiz battle, tasked with writing the opening act song for an international sports festival, a challenge that pits the talents of ST☆RISH against the senior idol unit QUARTET NIGHT. This position places her as a key figure in the unfolding professional rivalry.

Her relationships are primarily with the members of ST☆RISH, to whom she is deeply connected as both a creative partner and a source of inspiration. Each member holds her in high regard, and her unwavering support and determination often help the group overcome their personal and professional obstacles. For instance, Masato Hijirikawa is particularly protective of her, and his feelings grow throughout the series. Natsuki Shinomiya adores her, believing she is the only person who truly understands his music. She also shares a close friendship with her roommate, Tomochika Shibuya, who provides her with support. Her relationships with the members of QUARTET NIGHT, such as Reiji Kotobuki and Ranmaru Kurosaki, are more professionally driven, though they also come to respect her talents as they collaborate and compete.

Her development throughout the series is marked by her growth from a shy, inexperienced student with performance anxiety, fearful of playing piano in front of others, into a confident and recognized professional composer. The initial paralyzing fear she felt when asked to play in class, stemming from her inability to read music, was gradually overcome through sheer force of will and the support of the idols. By the time of Revolutions, she is a calm and collected professional, though the core of her earnest and dedicated personality remains unchanged.

Notable abilities include her exceptional gift for composition and her ability to visualize music. She has a form of synesthesia, perceiving people as having their own distinct colors which are also accompanied by sounds. This unique perception likely contributes to the beauty and emotional depth of the music she writes. Her compositions are not just technically proficient but are also said to have the power to move people's hearts, a quality that makes her a highly sought-after and valued partner for any idol.
