Description
Camus is a prominent character in the third season, Utano☆Princesama Revolutions, where he takes on a significant role interacting with the main composer, Haruka Nanami. He is a tall, young man with long blonde hair, a pale complexion, and icy blue eyes, typically dressed in formal, elegant white and navy clothing and often carrying a scepter-like rod. His appearance reflects his noble and refined background.
Born into an aristocratic family that serves the Queen of the Silk Palace in the Kingdom of the Permafrost, Camus is the scion of an earl and inherited the title of Count. The name Camus was personally given to him by the Queen, to whom he swore unwavering loyalty. He was sent to Japan under the Queen's orders and was subsequently scouted by Shining Saotome to become an idol. He accepted this position partly to gain a favorable vantage point for his secret mission, which is tied to his queen's interests.
Camus possesses a distinctly dual personality that is central to his character. In public and in front of fans, he presents the persona of a charismatic, graceful, and courteous gentleman. However, his true nature is cold, callous, and indifferent towards people he does not consider worthy of his time. He is extremely proud of his home country and speaks of it with great passion. He tends to keep others at a distance, having no intention of getting friendly with people outside of work obligations, and he calls everyone by their last names. He is also known to be argumentative, particularly with his QUARTET NIGHT bandmate Ranmaru Kurosaki, whose preferences and attitude often clash with his own.
In the story of Revolutions, Camus is tasked by Shining Saotome to work with Haruka Nanami, who is assigned to compose a song for him to perform at the grand opening of the Shining Tower. Initially, Camus is resistant and uncooperative, refusing to provide any input about his singing preferences. He agrees to let Haruka observe him, but only on the condition that she become his servant, a role that involves menial tasks and following his demanding schedule. This treatment alarms her friends in ST☆RISH, particularly Cecil Aijima, who is Camus's roommate and has experienced similar behavior. Despite this harsh treatment, Haruka persists, aiming to understand him well enough to write a song that might allow his sincere self to emerge. Her efforts culminate in a performance where Camus uses her song to express his true, intense personality, leading to a moment of reluctant acknowledgment and changed behavior toward her.
Key relationships significantly define Camus. As a senior, he is assigned to train Cecil Aijima during the Master Course, a role he approaches with coldness and irritation, delegating grunt work and showing little patience for Cecil's earnest but naive nature. Within QUARTET NIGHT, he has an adversarial relationship with the rock-oriented Ranmaru Kurosaki, frequently arguing with him. He finds the cheerful Reiji Kotobuki annoying yet shows concern for him in times of trouble. In contrast, he gets along well with the cool and composed Ai Mikaze. A significant part of his character arc in Revolutions involves his evolving dynamic with Haruka Nanami, which shifts from master-servant to one of mutual respect after she successfully composes a song that reaches his true self.
Throughout the series, Camus undergoes subtle development. Initially motivated solely by his loyalty to the Queen and viewing his idol career merely as a means to an end, his experiences in Japan and his interactions with others, especially the members of QUARTET NIGHT and Haruka, begin to make him question his values and consider his own desires and identity as an individual. He maintains a professional work ethic, taking extensive notes and doing thorough research on those around him, though he often appears detached from his own musical performances.
Camus has several notable abilities. He is a skilled performer who plays the cello. His hobbies include horse riding and fencing, and he is also a capable ice skater, able to easily perform triple axels. He has a borzoi dog named Alexander, whom he often walks. He has a particular fondness for sweets that can be eaten with tea.
