Tomoaki Maeno
Description
Tomoaki Maeno is a Japanese voice actor born on May 26, 1982, in Shimotsuma, Ibaraki Prefecture. He is 176cm tall with type A blood and is affiliated with the talent agency ARTSVISION. His fascination with voice acting began in his childhood after watching the anime Dragon Ball with his sister. To pursue this career, he worked part-time jobs to save for tuition and graduated from the Amusement Media Academy in 2003 before honing his skills at the Japan Narration Acting Institute.
Maeno's early career was primarily focused on dubbing foreign films and television series. His breakthrough into anime came when he was recommended for the lead role of Atsushi Dōjō in Library War, a performance that received unanimous approval from the selection panel, including the original author. This role established him as a notable voice in the industry. In 2010, he received the prestigious New Actor Award at the 4th Seiyu Awards. He has also been highly ranked in specialized publications, such as winning first place in the voice actor category of the Dengeki Girl's Style Otome Game Awards in 2014.
Maeno is known for his deep, versatile voice, which allows him to portray a wide spectrum of characters, ranging from mature and stoic figures to more lighthearted or quirky roles. Among his many prominent anime roles are Son Hak in Akatsuki no Yona, Veldora Tempest in That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, the White Blood Cell (Neutrophil) in Cells at Work!, Decim in Death Parade, and Juichi Fukutomi in Yowamushi Pedal. He has also been the voice of Kinro in the Dr. Stone series, Konro Sagamiya in Fire Force, Camus in Utano☆Princesama, and Naotsugu in Log Horizon. In addition to anime, Maeno has a significant presence in video games, lending his voice to iconic characters such as Zhongli in Genshin Impact, Kyo Kusanagi in The King of Fighters series, and Luke in the Street Fighter series. His work also extends to dubbing foreign media, where he is known as the Japanese voice for Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker in The Amazing Spider-Man films.
Beyond his voice acting, Maeno has demonstrated his broad range of interests and skills. He has served as the narrator for the television program Top Runner from 2009 to 2011. In 2020, he launched a YouTube channel featuring gaming, cooking, and casual talk content. A proud native of Ibaraki Prefecture, he was appointed as a tourism ambassador for his hometown of Shimotsuma in the same year. He is also known for his involvement in numerous live events and radio programs related to his various anime and game franchises. In his personal life, Maeno married fellow voice actress Mikako Komatsu in May 2020, and the couple has two children.
