Description
Alfreya, known as the Lord of the Heavens or the Primal Hero, is a significant antagonist in the anime. He is a male character belonging to the Primal race, also referred to as the Celestial or Barbarian races. His title reflects his status as the hero and leader of this faction, positioning him as a being of immense power and authority. Within the hierarchy of the Primals, he is served by a loyal bodyguard named Raffaello, who is known as the Angel of Superhuman Strength.
In terms of personality, Alfreya is initially described as having a kind and gentle nature, which earned him the adoration of those around him, particularly the elf priestess Reiren. However, when encountered by the protagonist Kai, he has undergone a dramatic and sinister transformation. He exhibits extreme arrogance and a pronounced superiority complex, believing firmly in the supremacy of Angels over all other races. He openly expresses disdain for other Primal races, including elves, dwarves, and fairies, declaring them to be unnecessary. This change in character is not a natural evolution of his beliefs but is later revealed to be the result of external manipulation. Alfreya has been driven mad and controlled by a force known as a Last Riser, or by an entity named Rastaliza, which has corrupted him and turned him against his former allies.
Alfreyas primary motivation within the story is to subjugate all divine beings and enforce Angel supremacy over the world. His actions directly oppose the protagonists, as he captures the Great Elder of the Elves and betrays his former comrades, forcing the elf priestess Reiren to ally with Kai and his resistance group to confront him. His role is that of a powerful antagonist whose defeat is essential for the protagonists progress. The confrontation with him is portrayed as one of Kais toughest battles, with Alfreyas powers even being compared to those of the formidable Underworld Emperor, Vanessa.
Key relationships in his narrative include his connection with Reiren, who is heartbroken by his transformation and the cruel words he spits out, having previously adored him for his kindness. His faithful bodyguard, Raffaello, also serves as a direct subordinate. The central relationship, however, is his adversarial one with the hero Kai. During their climactic battle, Kai and his allies, including a character named Jeanne, manage to break the corruption controlling Alfreya.
This marks the crucial point in Alfreyas character development. In his dying moments, he regains his sanity and true personality. Freed from the influence of the Last Riser, he acknowledges that hatred is a pervasive issue in the world. Before he passes, he entrusts a final message to the character Sid, which is then to be relayed to Kai, signifying a final act of redemption and cooperation despite his earlier villainous role.
Regarding his abilities, Alfreya is an exceptionally powerful fighter, possessing powers that surpass even those of a typical hero. His defensive capabilities are formidable, as he is protected by multiple layers of barriers and powerful blessings, earning him the epithet the Unsinkable Angel. He is able to withstand attacks from Kais legendary sword and requires a combined effort from multiple allies to be defeated, with Jeanne creating a massive arrow of light that proves instrumental in destroying him. His power level is such that even before his transformation, he was considered comparable to the greatest threats in the world.
