Description
Crocodine, the Furfang Legion Commander serving under Hadlar in the Dark Army, evolves from a fearsome foe to a pivotal ally. As Beast King, he leads a legion of beast-monsters, wielding raw physical power exceeding even Hadlar’s. Tasked with ravaging Romos, his boredom with unchallenged conquest shifts when ordered to hunt Dai, the young hero who injured Hadlar—a mission reigniting his thirst for worthy combat.
During their first clash in the Dark Forest, Crocodine’s overconfidence results in Dai and Maam blinding his left eye, compelling retreat. Tricked by the manipulative Zaboera, he resorts to coercive tactics, exploiting Dai’s brainwashed grandfather Brass as leverage—a choice clashing with his warrior’s honor. At Romos Castle, Popp’s sacrificial act to free Brass and Dai’s transformation into a Dragon Knight overwhelm Crocodine. Defeated, he acknowledges his fall from integrity, seeking redemption through a self-destructive act. Surviving, he aligns with the heroes.
Redeemed, Crocodine emerges as a loyal combatant, blending brute force with tactical acumen. His arsenal includes the Vortex Axe, channeling Woosh spells; paralyzing Heat Breath; and the Beast King Anguish Blast, reborn as Redemption Blast. Relentless training unlocks advanced techniques like the Indomitable Blast, fusing conflicting energies. Enhanced by his rocklike hide and adaptability, he proves indispensable against adversaries such as Baran, Mystvearn, and Vearn.
Crocodine grapples with his monstrous identity, wrestling with alienation and perceived incompatibility among humans. Persistent acceptance from his allies gradually softens his resolve, allowing him to value kinship alongside strength. His bond with Hyunckel, a fellow redeemed warrior, underscores their shared growth as they reconcile past sins with present loyalty.
Expanded roles in media like *Dragon Quest Tact* highlight his leadership, bolstering beast allies’ resilience. His arc weaves honor, redemption, and the fusion of might with empathy, cementing his journey from pride-driven conqueror to devoted guardian.
