TV-Series
Description
Otoya Ittoki is a student at Saotome Academy in the anime series, where he belongs to Class A of the idol department and is a member of the idol group ST☆RISH. He is from Tokyo and was born on April 11. He has bright red hair and red eyes, and red serves as his image color. He is fifteen at the start of the story, stands 175 cm tall, weighs 60 kg, and has O-type blood. His main instrument is the guitar, and his hobbies are soccer and sports in general. He is sometimes called Oto-kun by those around him.

Otoya's background is marked by early loss. His mother is believed to have died in a plane crash when he was very young, and he never knew his father, so he was raised in an orphanage. Later in the franchise it is revealed that his mother was actually alive but suffering from amnesia, and that he was taken in by a maternal aunt. That aunt also died of illness while he was still a child, leaving him with a lasting fear of losing the people closest to him. He keeps a rosary given to him by the woman who raised him. Later storylines also disclose that his biological father is Shining Saotome and that he is the maternal half-brother of Cecil Aijima.

In personality, Otoya is warm, energetic, and open. He is kind and friendly to everyone regardless of who they are, with a bright, honest, and straightforward manner. He often acts on impulse and can seem childlike, but this enthusiasm comes with genuine goodwill. He loves music above all else, and singing has been his passion since childhood. His constant smile and upbeat nature make him a natural mood-maker in any group.

Singing was something that encouraged him during a difficult childhood, and this is why he came to want to become an idol: to share that same encouragement and happiness with others and to make people smile through his voice. He entered Saotome Academy partly because singing seemed fun and interesting, but after meeting Haruka Nanami and hearing her sing, he began to take the ambition of becoming an idol seriously, moved by her caring, hard-working, and never-give-up personality.

As one of the central characters of the series, Otoya often serves as the emotional center of his group. He takes part in the entrance test, recording assignments, and stage performances that drive the plot forward. In the first recording test, he is paired with Haruka and supports her when her lack of confidence and her inability to read music threaten the assignment; he is also the one who comes up with the first lines of the song Brand New Melody after hearing Haruka hum a tune. Early on, he stands up for Haruka when she is barred from taking the entrance exam because she is late. Within ST☆RISH he keeps the atmosphere warm and light, easing tensions with his honest words and helping the group hold together during difficult moments, including the rivalries that intensify in the later seasons.

His relationship with Haruka is one of mutual support, with each influencing the other's approach to music and emotional expression. His relationship with his roommate Tokiya Ichinose is a contrast between instinct and technique; Otoya is at first intimidated by Tokiya's polished singing, but the two grow through their differences and push each other forward. With the other members of ST☆RISH, he acts as the group's emotional anchor and a figure who strengthens their unity.

Over the course of the story, Otoya develops from a carefree and somewhat inexperienced boy into a more serious and committed performer. His struggles come not from a lack of passion but from his unresolved past. Because he lost so many important people, he grew used to hiding his emotional scars behind his smile, and when his past is brought up in the context of a duet project, he is shaken by the fear that his friends might leave him if they learned the truth. With their support, he eventually confronts this fear and moves forward. His arc shows growth built on effort, honesty, and the willingness to keep trying after failure.

Otoya is a gifted singer with an emotionally expressive and straightforward vocal style, and he often performs while playing guitar. His bold and energetic dancing is supported by excellent physical coordination; he is a natural athlete who excels at soccer and sports in general and is physically acrobatic. He also shows skill as a lyricist, having written the words for Brand New Melody. His favorite food is curry, while he dislikes green peppers and black coffee.
