TV-Series
Description
Hina Ebina is a student at Soubu High School and a classmate of Hachiman Hikigaya and Yui Yuigahama. She is a member of the popular social circle led by Hayato Hayama, which also includes Yumiko Miura, Kakeru Tobe, and others. Physically, she is a tall girl with brown bobbed hair, green eyes, and a pair of red half-framed glasses, which are distinctive features of her appearance.

Her most prominent personality trait is her open and intense passion for Boys Love, or yaoi, which involves romantic narratives between male characters. She frequently expresses her imagination by fantasizing about pairings among her male classmates, often focusing on Hayato Hayama and Hachiman Hikigaya. This interest is so strong that she actively tries to create situations that bring her fantasies to life, such as when she wrote a class play filled with BL innuendo. While she is energetic and lively when discussing this hobby, she can also be quiet and observant. Her friends, particularly Yumiko Miura, are familiar with her enthusiasm and often have to stop her when she becomes overly excited.

Beneath her eccentric and cheerful surface, Ebina is a perceptive and self-aware individual. She admits to being "rotten to the core" and selfish for imposing her desires on others, and she has expressed a dislike for this part of herself. Her enjoyment of BL and her openness about it serves a dual purpose; Hachiman theorizes, and she seems to confirm, that she uses her fujoshi persona as a deliberate barrier to keep boys from becoming romantically interested in her. This hints at a more guarded and vulnerable side, as she also mentions having a troubled past and difficulty getting close to people personally.

Ebina plays a significant role in the story as a catalyst for some of the Service Club's major interventions. Her desire to maintain the stable, unchanging status quo of her friend group becomes a primary motivation. She is aware that her classmate Kakeru Tobe intends to confess his feelings for her, but she does not wish to engage in a relationship, as she fears it would upset the group's delicate balance. She indirectly requests help to prevent this confession, leading to one of Hachiman's most notable acts of social self-sacrifice where he falsely confesses to her to resolve the situation without anyone else getting hurt. After this event, she personally thanks Hachiman, acknowledging his genuine support.

Her key relationships are primarily within her own clique. She is close friends with Yui Yuigahama and especially Yumiko Miura, who is one of the few people who knows the more crafty and sly aspects of her personality. While she is friendly with Hayato Hayama and finds him an ideal subject for her fantasies, she does not have a romantic interest in him. Her dynamic with Hachiman is unique; she affectionately mispronounces his name as "Hikitani" and is one of the few people to whom she shows her more serious, introspective side when they are alone. She also has a cooperative and synchronous working relationship with the chunibyo Yoshiteru Zaimokuza when they serve together on a school committee. Her relationship with Saki Kawasaki is also notable, as she was the first person outside her clique that Ebina befriended, relying on Saki's talents for making costumes.

Throughout the series, Ebina demonstrates notable abilities beyond her creative imagination. She is a capable leader and organizer, as shown when she single-handedly serves as the producer, director, and scriptwriter for her class's cultural festival play. Her perceptiveness allows her to accurately read the atmosphere of her group and understand complex social dynamics, such as when she discerned Rumi Tsurumi's feelings of isolation during the summer camp arc. Her other hobbies and skills include reading historical novels, drawing pictures, and a peculiar talent for standing in long lines. While initially presented as a comic relief character focused on her fujoshi interests, her role develops to reveal a more nuanced individual who is deeply committed to preserving her friendships and is capable of serious, strategic thinking.
