TV-Series
Description
Zakuro Fujiwara, infused with gray wolf DNA, is the fifth heroine recruited to the team. Before the series, she attended a prestigious school and lived abroad in America, but deliberately distanced herself from her family two years prior. This separation and implied past trauma, including the loss of someone close, contribute to her initially distant and unsociable demeanor. She supports herself independently as a professional model and actress, recognized for her long, glossy raven hair, dark, intelligent, yet sensitive sapphire-colored eyes, and tall, slender physique. Her civilian attire often features a silver cross necklace, censored in some international adaptations.

Initially operating as a lone vigilante, Zakuro possesses Mew abilities but declines team invitations. She relents after being saved during an alien attack, moved when Ichigo calls her a friend. Joining the team, she evolves into a mature, older-sister figure, offering guidance and protecting younger members in battle. Teammates perceive her differently: Ichigo sees calm reliability, Minto idolizes her, while Bu-Ling and Retasu view her as relatively ordinary despite her fame. Zakuro occasionally displays warmth, like using her canine communication ability to aid Minto's dog reunion, yet remains reserved and intimidating, using physical force against threats like Retasu's bullies or aliens harming children.

Her Mew transformation grants wolf ears, a tail, and a distinct uniform: a red-violet crop top, flared shorts, thigh-high boots, armbands, a choker, and a garter belt. Her weapon is the ZaCross Whip, a cross-shaped implement resembling a flute, generating purple energy for her primary attack "Ribbon ZaCross Pure." This attack uses energy rings and a whip-like laser capable of independently defeating enemies. In the 2020 sequel manga, her design updates include two-tone hair (light purple with blue underneath), an oversized bow choker with a heart brooch, plaid ribbon details, and spiked trim on her shorts and wristbands. Her attack upgrades to "ZaCross Pure Entanglement," fighting Chimera Anima in a frozen Shibuya created by human activities like animal smuggling.

In the "Tokyo Mew Mew New" reboot, Zakuro retains her core traits with modernized adaptations like smartphones and revised extinction statistics. Her role remains consistent, working alongside the team at Café Mew Mew in a purple variant of the maid uniform. Her Mew form features a purple palette, and her ZaCross Whip is categorized as an "Instrument of Murder" alongside other music-themed Mew weapons. The reboot similarly ages her, with Minto noting they are the same age while Ichigo, Minto, and Retasu are high school students. Her combat prowess is emphasized, as all Mews except Bu-Ling can independently defeat enemies.

Internationally, her character underwent name changes: Renée Roberts (4Kids English), Pam (Italian), Shí-Liú (Mandarin), Romã (Portuguese), and Ruby (Korean). These adaptations often omitted religious elements like her cross necklace or weapon design.
