Description
Chitoge Kirisaki is the female protagonist of the romantic comedy series Nisekoi. She is a high school student of mixed heritage, with a Japanese mother and an American father, which gives her a distinctive appearance characterized by long blonde hair with pinkish tips and striking aqua-blue eyes. Her most recognizable accessory is the red ribbon she always wears in her hair, a treasured gift from her mother that holds deep sentimental value for her.

Chitoge was born on June 7 and is approximately fifteen to seventeen years old during the main events of the story. She is the daughter of Adelt Kirisaki Wagner, the boss of a powerful American gangster organization known as Beehive, and Hana Kirisaki, a self-made multinational corporation owner. Due to her father’s position, she grew up under the constant watch of bodyguards, particularly the overly protective Claude, which severely impacted her social development. This isolation continued through her childhood and into middle school, as other children were afraid to befriend the daughter of a gang leader. As a result, Chitoge developed a habit of creating detailed notebooks filled with observations about her classmates in an attempt to understand how to approach them and make friends.

Personality-wise, Chitoge initially presents as aggressive, hot-headed, and quick to resort to physical violence when annoyed, which earns her the nickname "gorilla" from the male lead, Raku Ichijou. She is bold, confident, and often speaks her mind without a filter, leading to frequent clashes with others. However, this tough exterior masks a fundamentally good-natured and caring person who is deeply loyal to her friends. Once she becomes comfortable with someone, she reveals a talkative, cheerful, and friendly side. She also has several unexpected fears and vulnerabilities, including a strong fear of thunder, darkness, and confined spaces, which contrasts sharply with her otherwise fearless demeanor. Despite her intelligence and academic excellence, she can be surprisingly oblivious when it comes to matters of love and romance, both in understanding her own feelings and those of others.

Chitoge’s central role in the story is defined by her fake romantic relationship with Raku Ichijou, the son of a yakuza boss. Their families’ gangs are on the brink of a war, so to force a ceasefire and prevent bloodshed, Chitoge and Raku are compelled to pretend they are a couple in love. This arrangement forces them to spend a great deal of time together, which they initially fill with constant arguing and bickering. However, as the story progresses, their antagonistic relationship gradually evolves as they both begin to develop genuine romantic feelings for each other, much to their own confusion.

Her key relationships include her best friend, Kosaki Onodera, who is a kind and gentle classmate. Chitoge greatly values her friendship with Kosaki, and the two often support each other, even though they are unaware that they are both in love with the same boy. Another significant relationship is with Seishirou Tsugumi, her childhood friend and devoted bodyguard who transferred to the same school to protect her.

Throughout the series, Chitoge undergoes notable personal development. Initially frustrated by her forced relationship with Raku, she gradually comes to cherish her new experiences with friends, such as going to fast-food restaurants or having study groups, which she never got to do before. Her inability to be honest about her feelings remains a challenge, but she slowly learns to confront her emotions. The fake relationship transitions from a hated obligation to a treasured connection that she fears losing when the pretense ends.

In terms of abilities, Chitoge is an exceptional all-rounder who excels in both academics and athletics. She is completely fluent in English and Japanese and often achieves top grades in her class. Her physical prowess is immense, as she possesses superhuman strength and agility; she can easily jump over tall school walls, swim the length of a pool in seconds, and send a person flying with a single punch. Her only notable weakness is cooking, an activity at which she is notoriously terrible, as she never measures ingredients and adds random things, often resulting in inedible dishes. She eventually pursues a career as a fashion designer, and in the conclusion of the manga, she and Raku marry and start a family together.
