Description
In the series Saint Seiya: Soul of Gold, Camus du Verseau is resurrected alongside the other Gold Saints to battle in the shadow of Yggdrasil in Asgard. However, his role in this narrative is uniquely complicated, as he initially refuses to join his fellow Gold Saints in their fight. Instead, Camus chooses to side with the God Warriors, the defenders of Asgard, creating a tense and mysterious dynamic among the resurrected warriors.

This unexpected allegiance stems from a deep-seated personal debt. In his youth, before becoming a Gold Saint, Camus was involved in a tragic accident during his training. An avalanche triggered by his actions led to the death of a young girl, who was the sister of Surt, a powerful God Warrior of Eikthyrnir. Haunted by this guilt for years, Camus views his resurrection in Soul of Gold as an opportunity for atonement. Having already sacrificed his life for Athena during the battle against Hades, he chooses to follow his own path this time, believing he owes a life debt to Surt that he must repay, even if it means standing against his former comrades.

Despite this facade of betrayal, Camus's loyalty to his fellow Gold Saints never truly wavers. His actions in Asgard are those of an undercover agent, forced to walk a careful line between his promise to a childhood friend and his duty as a Saint of Athena. The God Warriors, aware of the history between Camus and Cygnus Hyoga, naturally distrust him, creating a high-stakes environment where any misstep could be fatal. This inner conflict is most apparent in his interactions with his close friend, Milo of Scorpio. Milo recognizes Camus's burden and deliberately challenges him, not to defeat him, but to force him to confront his allegiances and break free from the chains of his guilt.

Camus's development in Soul of Gold centers on reconciling his past sins with his identity as a Gold Saint. He must face the cruel irony of fighting the very people he was once sworn to protect. The conclusion of his arc brings a bittersweet resolution, as he is forced to use his signature technique, the Freezing Coffin, against Surt. This act, while tragic, ultimately frees Camus from his self-imposed obligation. Having fulfilled his perceived debt, he casts aside his role as a double agent and reunites with the other Gold Saints for the final battle against the series' true antagonist, Loki.

As a master of ice, his abilities are a direct reflection of his controlled and disciplined nature. Camus fights by using his cosmos to lower temperatures to their absolute limit. His techniques include the Diamond Dust, a freezing blast of cold air, and the Freezing Coffin, a virtually unbreakable glacier of ice capable of trapping an opponent for eternity. His ultimate attack, the Aurora Execution, unleashes a catastrophic wave of energy that reaches the temperature of absolute zero, the point at which all atomic motion ceases. In Soul of Gold, he also demonstrates the power of his Aquarius God Cloth, a divine armor that significantly amplifies his already immense strength.
