Description
Hercule de Tanngrisnir is a character from the anime Saint Seiya: Soul of Gold, where he serves as one of the seven God Warriors of Asgard under the command of Andreas Rize, the representative of the god Odin. Known as the mightiest among this new generation of warriors, he is distinguished by his immense physical strength and towering presence.

The character's name presents an interesting blend of mythologies. While his first name, Hercule, comes from the Greek hero Heracles, known for his superhuman strength and twelve labors, his God Robe is named Tanngrisnir. In Norse mythology, Tanngrisnir is one of the two magical goats that pull the chariot of Thor, the god of thunder. This connection to Thor is further reinforced by his weapon, a large double-bladed sword or spear named Mjollnir, which is a direct reference to Thor's legendary hammer.

Hercule de Tanngrisnir possesses a contradictory and complex personality. He is introduced as a warrior of honor who lives for the thrill of battle, yet he can be cruel and underhanded in his methods. He is supremely confident in his own power, valuing brute force above all else. This obsession with proving his strength is so consuming that he admits to having forgotten what it felt like to care for or protect others, becoming convinced that raw power is the only true measure of a warrior. His arrogance, however, often proves to be his greatest weakness, as he becomes easily overwhelmed when a situation cannot be resolved through sheer force alone.

In the story, he first appears challenging the Gold Saints at the Asgardian colosseum. He specifically seeks to fight Taurus Aldebaran, seeing the Gold Saint as a perfect opponent to test his own strength. Initially, when Aldebaran gains the upper hand, Hercule resorts to dishonorable tactics, directing an attack at the crowd of spectators to gain an advantage. He later reappears as the guardian of the Jotunheim, the chamber of giants, within the cosmic tree Yggdrasill. Empowered by an Odin Sapphire, he faces Aldebaran in a rematch. During this final battle, Hercule discards his weapon, Mjollnir, choosing to rely solely on his physical might. Despite his increased power, he is ultimately defeated.

His primary relationship is with his rival, Taurus Aldebaran. Through their clashes, Hercule undergoes a notable development. While he initially views strength as merely the ability to destroy, Aldebaran's selfless act of destroying the chamber's statue to save others, even at the cost of his own safety, leaves a deep impression on him. In the end, Hercule comes to admire the Gold Saint's caring nature, acknowledging it as a form of strength he had long forgotten. He survives the events of Soul of Gold and is last seen alongside other surviving God Warriors, training the next generation of Asgardian soldiers.

In terms of abilities, Hercule de Tanngrisnir is a purely physical fighter whose power is said to be the greatest of the seven God Warriors. His primary weapon is Mjollnir, a large sword that can be split into two separate blades, allowing him to channel his cosmos into powerful energy waves. He has two named techniques. Ruota Falce, or Scythe Wheel, involves launching the two disc-like wheels from his shoulder armor while using his sword as a lever. Ruota Tornado, or Tornado Wheel, sees him spinning these wheels to generate a devastating tornado that he directs at his opponent.
