Description
The character Dohko di Libra is the Gold Saint of the Libra Temple. As one of the only two survivors of the previous Holy War against Hades that took place 243 years before the main story, he possesses a lifespan and breadth of experience far exceeding any other Saint of his generation alongside his friend and comrade, Shion of Aries. To fulfill Athena’s command to guard the seal imprisoning the souls of the 108 Specters, the goddess granted him the divine gift of Misopethamenos. This technique slows his heart rate to a near halt, limiting it to approximately one hundred thousand beats per year. As a result, while 243 years passed in the outside world, his body aged only 243 days, causing him to appear as a diminutive old man until he unleashes his full cosmos and regains his youthful form. In his youth, Dohko was known to be lively, impulsive, and somewhat rebellious, once even disobeying orders from the Sanctuary. However, his centuries of meditation and vigilance transformed his outward personality into that of a serene, quiet, and immensely wise old master who speaks little but acts with profound understanding.

In the Soul of Gold narrative, Dohko is one of the twelve Gold Saints who sacrifice their lives to destroy the Wailing Wall in the Underworld. However, due to the influence of the Yggdrasil tree in Asgard, he and the other Gold Saints are temporarily resurrected, granted only twelve hours of life. This specific context reveals a different facet of his personality. Freed from the constraints of his elderly guise and returned to his prime, Dohko displays a much more relaxed, confident, and even teasing demeanor. He playfully asks the Taurus Saint Aldebaran to simply call him Dohko instead of Old Master, reminding him of a previous defeat to demonstrate his mischievous side. His role in this narrative is that of the anchor and strategic leader. While other Gold Saints, like Aiolia, are driven by emotion and vengeance, Dohko acts with the calm authority of someone who has seen countless battles. He shows a paternalistic attitude towards the younger Gold Saints, reassuring them and calmly positioning himself to confront the main antagonist, Loki, telling others to leave the matter to him.

Dohko shares a deep and foundational bond with Dragon Shiryu, whom he trained personally and who is essentially his only true disciple. He is deeply respected by all Saints of Athena, who refer to him as the Old Master. In Soul of Gold, his relationships with his direct peers are highlighted; he interacts with Shion, who was once his closest friend, as well as with Saga and the other resurrected Gold Saints, observing their struggles with the wisdom of a veteran who understands the weight of sacrifice. His motivations are centered on justice, balance, and the protection of Athena. He is described as the strongest Saint by Gemini Saga, possessing the greatest raw strength among them, capable of enduring powerful attacks. He does not seek glory or combat for its own sake, but acts as a fulcrum to tip the scales of war in favor of justice. His development in Soul of Gold comes from the temporary nature of his resurrection; he embraces this final gift of life not with desperation, but with a focused resolve to personally ensure that Loki’s threat is neutralized before his time runs out.

Regarding his notable abilities, Dohko is a master of the Rozan martial arts, named after the mountain where he trains. His ultimate technique is the Rozan Hyaku Ryu Ha, or Mount Lu One Hundred Dragons Force, which unleashes a devastating wave of one hundred dragon-shaped cosmos blasts. He also utilizes the Rozan Sho Ryu Ha (Rising Dragon Punch) and the suicidal Rozan Ko Ryu Ha, which engulfs an opponent in a dragon that carries them out of the atmosphere. As the guardian of the Libra Temple, he holds the authority to wield the six pairs of weapons stored within the Libra Cloth, including swords, spears, tonfas, shields, and nunchaku, which are otherwise forbidden for Saints to use due to their destructive power. His greatest asset, however, is his strategic intellect and the absolute calm he maintains in combat, analyzing and countering an opponent’s moves after witnessing them only once, a testament to his centuries of accumulated wisdom.
