Description
Heracles di Tanngrisnir is a character from the anime Saint Seiya: Soul of Gold, where he serves as one of the seven God Warriors of Asgard under the command of Andreas Lise. His background is a blend of mythological references, as his name comes from the Greek hero Heracles, known for his immense strength, while his God Robe, Tanngrisnir, is named after one of the two goats that pull the chariot of the Norse god Thor. Reflecting this duality, he is considered the most physically powerful among the new generation of God Warriors and guards the chamber of Jotunheim, the realm of the giants, within the great tree Yggdrasil.

In terms of personality, Heracles is defined by an absolute and obsessive confidence in brute force. He believes that raw physical power is the only true measure of a warrior and is willing to abandon his own humanity to test the limits of his strength. This obsession makes him proud and eager to challenge strong opponents, as seen when he directly confronts the Gold Saints. However, this reliance on sheer power is also his greatest disadvantage, as he becomes easily overwhelmed in situations that require strategy or adaptability. Heracles is a contradictory figure, showcasing a sense of honor in battle—refusing to attack an opponent who is not ready—while also displaying cruelty without concern for the means to achieve his goal, such as when he deliberately attacks innocent spectators, including children, just to provoke his enemy into fighting seriously.

His primary motivation is to prove that his strength is supreme. He is introduced in the story while fighting at a colosseum, where he challenges Taurus Aldebaran. Frustrated by Aldebaran's initial reluctance to use his full power, Heracles attacks the audience, forcing the Gold Saint to activate his God Cloth and defeat him. Despite this loss, Heracles retreats. He reappears later after receiving an Odin Sapphire from Andreas, which amplifies his abilities. Believing he no longer needs a weapon, he abandons his Mjollnir (a spear-like weapon named after Thor’s hammer) and confronts Aldebaran again in his own chamber of Jotunheim. Augmented by the gem's power, he fights more ferociously than before, though he is ultimately defeated once more.

The most significant relationship in his story arc is with Taurus Aldebaran. Their rivalry is central to Heracles's development. Initially serving as a formidable enemy who forces Aldebaran to reveal his power, Heracles later experiences a shift in perspective. After his final defeat, the parasitic roots of Yggdrasil attempt to consume him, but Aldebaran chooses to sacrifice himself by destroying the chamber’s statue and is taken by the tree roots instead. Heracles, spared and saved by his enemy's selfless act, is deeply moved. He admits that he had forgotten what it felt like to care for and protect others, having become convinced that raw strength was the only thing that mattered. This moment forces him to acknowledge the nobility in Aldebaran's actions and the value of a different kind of strength.

Notable abilities include his immense physical strength, which is said to be the greatest among the seven God Warriors. He can tear massive pillars from the ground to use as weapons. His signature techniques are Ruota Falce, where he detaches the wheel-shaped shoulder guards of his God Robe and hurls them like a giant scythe, and Ruota Tornado, where he spins the wheels to generate a powerful tornado to assault his opponent. Despite his obsession with raw power, his skill set includes these projectile and wind-based attacks, showing he is not limited to only physical blows.
