TV-Series
Description
Kyouhei Kadota is a tall young man who typically wears a black beanie, a teal or dark green jacket with a high collar, jeans, and black sneakers. Without his hat, he has slicked-back brown hair and brown eyes. He stands 183 centimeters tall and weighs 74 kilograms, with a birthday of September 15th. Physically, he has considerable experience with street fights and is highly skilled in hand-to-hand combat, though he is considered one of the more normal characters in terms of raw ability when compared to the superhuman feats of others in the series.
Originally a member of a gang called the Blue Squares, Kadota, along with his close friends Saburo Togusa, Erika Karisawa, and Walker Yumasaki, defected from the group. This act of betrayal occurred when they chose to rescue Saki Mikajima, the girlfriend of Masaomi Kida, appalled by the brutal methods of their own gang's leader. Following this, they became members of the Dollars, a vast and loosely organized online color gang. Kadota received an anonymous text message inviting him to join, an invitation he initially thought was a joke but accepted out of curiosity. He suspects that Izaya Orihara is the founder of the Dollars, though this is an incorrect assumption. His nickname, Dotachin, was given to him by Izaya Orihara, and he greatly dislikes being called by this name.
Kadota tries to present himself as a calm, cool, and collected individual. He typically approaches situations with a serious mindset and serves as the anchor for his eccentric group of friends. He is driven by a strong sense of justice and morality, always willing to help others, especially his friends, and to offer friendly advice. This heroic streak is evident when he risks his safety to save Saki Mikajima and later when he investigates the Yagiri Pharmaceuticals company for its involvement in kidnappings, a matter that does not directly concern him. He is also highly perceptive and charismatic, able to read people's intentions easily and call upon a large network of friends for favors outside his immediate circle.
Kadota is the de facto leader of a small, tight-knit group that includes Saburo Togusa, Erika Karisawa, and Walker Yumasaki. The four are almost inseparable. While he sometimes grows annoyed by Erika and Walker's intense anime obsessions and bizarre antics, he is fiercely protective and caring toward them. Their loyalty to him is absolute, as demonstrated when they betrayed the Blue Squares alongside him. During their high school years at Raijin Academy, he was a classmate of Izaya Orihara, Shizuo Heiwajima, and Shinra Kishitani. In this setting, he often acted as a mediator between the violent Shizuo and the manipulative Izaya, trying to prevent their conflicts from causing widespread destruction. He is one of the few people whom Shizuo tolerates and one of the few who treats Izaya with a measure of respect. He also develops a strong friendship with Chikage Rokujou, the leader of the Toramaru gang, despite their initial meeting being a violent confrontation on the Raijin practice fields.
In the Durarara!!×2 Ten arc, Kadota's role becomes more pivotal. He is approached by Masaomi Kida, who asks him and his gang to leave the Dollars and join the Yellow Scarves in an effort to destroy the Dollars, which Masaomi believes has become corrupted. Kadota agrees to consider the offer. While pondering the recent dark changes in Mikado Ryugamine's personality and his involvement in purging Dollars members, Kadota is suddenly struck by a car, a deliberate attack that sends him into a coma. This event is likely the opening move in a revenge plot by Izumii Ran. Kadota's incapacitation removes a major stabilizing force in Ikebukuro, leaving his friends and allies vulnerable and derailing Masaomi's plans.
Prior to this incident, his notable abilities are on full display. He is a highly capable fighter, and his skills have not rusted since his days as a Blue Square activist. He confronts Chikage Rokujou at Raijin Academy, where Chikage mistakenly believes Kadota is the leader of the Dollars due to his reputation. The two engage in a brutal fight, from which Kadota emerges slightly victorious despite sustaining heavy injuries. Following this, he negotiates the retreat of the Toramaru gang from Ikebukuro, promising to personally identify and hold accountable the rogue Dollars members who attacked non-combatant Toramaru members. This action underscores his personal code of ethics, as he states he acts not as a representative of the Dollars but out of his own sense of justice and hatred for involving innocent people in gang conflicts.
