His entry into voice acting came through a job in a film studio's mailroom, where his deep voice led to an opportunity working on an anime project.

Blum's anime filmography is extensive and includes many prominent roles. He is widely known for his portrayal of Spike Spiegel in the classic series Cowboy Bebop and Mugen in Samurai Champloo. He has also voiced major characters in long-running series such as Orochimaru and Zabuza Momochi in the Naruto franchise, Roger Smith in The Big O, and Leeron Littner in Gurren Lagann.
