OVA
Description
Keisuke Takahashi, often referred to as K.T. in some adaptations, is a significant character who appears in a cameo capacity within the events of Initial D: Extra Stage. While the OVA focuses primarily on the Impact Blue team from Usui Pass, Keisuke's presence is felt as a member of the broader street racing community in Gunma Prefecture. He is the younger brother of Ryosuke Takahashi and serves as the number two driver for the Akagi RedSuns, a position that places him among the most elite and well-known racers in the region. At the time of Extra Stage, Keisuke is a young man in his early twenties, known for his athletic build and distinctive blonde hair, which spikes upward. He comes from a wealthy and prestigious family, as his father is the director of a major hospital, though Keisuke himself has chosen a path far removed from that world.

Keisuke's personality is defined by a fiery and hot-headed nature, combined with an immense, often aggressive, self-confidence. He is an extrovert who does not handle losing well; defeat can visibly affect his composure and driving. Unlike his older brother, who is a cold and calculating analyst of racing theory, Keisuke is an instinctive driver who relies primarily on his emotions and reflexes. This contrast between the two brothers is a defining aspect of Keisuke's character. While Ryosuke's ability to compute every variable amazes Keisuke, his own ability to feel the car and the road without overthinking is what makes him a formidable racer. Despite his brash exterior, he is deeply dedicated to his craft and is not without respect for worthy opponents. Before being introduced to the world of professional street racing by his brother, Keisuke was the leader of a bosozoku, or motorcycle gang, which explains his aggressive demeanor and his history of physical confrontations. Street racing became a constructive outlet for his energy, and he has since devoted his life to it, setting a long-term goal of becoming a professional racer.

His primary motivation is a deep-seated desire to be the best, and specifically to defeat his friendly rival, Takumi Fujiwara. Keisuke races on the uphill courses for the RedSuns and later for Project D, while Takumi typically handles the downhill, making their rivalry a constant but parallel one. The two share a mutual respect, though Keisuke is often irked by Takumi's seemingly effortless natural talent and unshakable calm under pressure.

Regarding his role in Extra Stage, Keisuke's appearance is limited, as the story does not center on him or his team. He exists within the same universe as the protagonists of the main series, and his reputation as the driver of the yellow Mazda RX-7 FD3S is well-known among other racers, including the members of Impact Blue. He is presented as a benchmark of speed and skill, a figure who represents the level of competition that exists on the mountain passes beyond Usui. His key relationships, which are more deeply explored in the main Initial D series, include his brother Ryosuke, whom he respects and relies upon for strategic guidance, and his rival Takumi. In the context of Extra Stage, these relationships are not developed but are part of the background information that informs his status as a minor character in that specific narrative.

Keisuke undergoes significant development throughout the larger story. Initially portrayed as a cocky but talented driver who can be thrown off by his own emotions, he matures into a more disciplined and strategic racer. This growth is largely credited to Ryosuke's structured training, which forces Keisuke to move beyond pure instinct and develop a more analytical understanding of his technique. For example, Ryosuke designed a training regimen focused on precise throttle control, requiring Keisuke to hit specific time targets exactly rather than driving at maximum speed every time. This method taught Keisuke to manage his car's momentum and tire wear more effectively, transforming him from merely a fast driver into a truly intelligent one. By the time Project D is formed, Keisuke has become a more complete and reliable competitor, capable of defeating even professional racing drivers. He has a noted bias against all-wheel-drive cars, such as the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, believing them to be a shortcut for less skilled drivers, and he takes particular pride in defeating them with his rear-wheel-drive RX-7.

In terms of notable abilities, Keisuke is renowned for his mastery of high-speed cornering and his expert use of the throttle. His driving style is aggressive and powerful, making full use of his car's rotary engine's potential to achieve incredible exit speeds out of corners. He is particularly strong on courses that favor a "grip" style of driving rather than the extreme drifting techniques favored by some of his rivals. One of his unique specializations is something referred to as ABS drift, a technique that suggests a highly refined level of car control under braking. He is also known for his ability to pressure opponents from behind and for his devastating sprint when he decides to push for the win. His car, a yellow Mazda efini RX-7 Type R (FD3S), is a highly tuned machine that he has modified extensively over time, with parts from manufacturers like Mazdaspeed and RE Amemiya. It is an extension of his personality: flashy, powerful, and built for outright speed. While his role in Extra Stage does not showcase these driving feats directly, this reputation is what defines his character within that world.
