Description
Ignis Ex serves as the captain of the Burning Rescue firefighting team in Promepolis. He is a man in his thirties, characterized by a tall and muscular build. His appearance is marked by very short blonde hair and a matching blonde mustache. His eyes are typically concealed behind a pair of sunglasses, and he often wears a gold chain as an accessory. His standard attire consists of a firefighter's jacket worn over a white tank-top, torn blue jeans, and a belt with pouches. On his upper arms and shoulders, he has tribal tattoos, though these are usually hidden by his jacket.

Ignis is portrayed as a wise and dignified leader who commands the respect of his team through his decisive actions and sound judgment. He maintains a calm and authoritative presence, placing a high priority on the safety and well-being of his crew members. While he can be strict and does not tolerate nonsense, this stems from a deep-seated trust in his team, a trust that is entirely mutual. He is known to stand up firmly against anyone who threatens his colleagues, demonstrating a strong protective instinct.

His background as a leader is put to the test when he receives a new recruit, Galo Thymos, who is personally recommended by the governor, Kray Foresight. Initially, Ignis is shown to be skeptical of Galo's overzealous and unprofessional attitude, especially when Galo damages a ceremonial Matoi banner during his introduction to the team. During the team's first major emergency call, Ignis orders the inexperienced Galo to remain at the station. However, after Galo argues that the mission would provide valuable practical experience, Ignis relents and assigns the scientist Lucia to supervise him.

The captain’s judgment proves critical when a civilian, Thyma, is trapped inside a burning building. Lucia calculates that a risky, unorthodox rescue plan proposed by Galo has the highest survival rate for the victim. Based on this calculation, Ignis approves the plan. The mission's successful outcome leads Ignis to acknowledge Galo's skills as a firefighter, granting him the same level of respect as the rest of the team. This event establishes the core dynamic of their relationship: Ignis acts as a strict but caring mentor, allowing the impulsive but talented Galo to participate in high-risk rescues while reining in his recklessness.

His key relationships are central to his role. Within Burning Rescue, he coordinates the distinct skills of his members—including the pilot Remi, the scientist Lucia, and the rookie Galo—earning their loyalty and respect. He also has a notably antagonistic and long-standing history with Vulcan Haestus of the Freeze Force. The two frequently clash over jurisdiction and tactics, with Vulcan looking down on Burning Rescue's equipment and Ignis condemning Freeze Force's ethically questionable methods. Ignis does not hesitate to confront Vulcan directly, such as when he defends Galo from being arrested during a Burnish incident by asserting Burning Rescue's authority over fire emergencies.

Over the course of the story, Ignis undergoes a significant development in his understanding of the central conflict. When Governor Kray Foresight's true, villainous nature and grand betrayal are revealed, it is Ignis who discovers Galo has been arrested. He promptly informs the rest of the team, leading them to participate in Galo's escape. He demonstrates keen perception by stopping a teammate from extinguishing the flames that have enveloped Galo, having realized the fire is not harmful to him. In the final confrontation, Ignis fully commits his team to fighting against Kray's forces, engaging in a physical and direct clash with his rival, Vulcan. Following the resolution of the conflict, he takes part in the rebuilding efforts with the rest of his team.

Notable among his abilities are his decisive coordination in the field and his tactical leadership. While his primary role is strategic command, he is also physically capable, as demonstrated when he engages in direct combat with Vulcan. His leadership is characterized by a focus on calculated risk, relying on data from his team, like Lucia's survival rate calculations, to make informed decisions during dangerous rescue operations.
