Gerardo Vásquez
Description
Gerardo Vásquez Martínez, born on February 6, 1971, in Mexico City, is a highly respected Mexican voice actor, director, and locutor with a career spanning over three decades in the entertainment industry. His entry into the world of voice acting began at the age of 17 when he was invited by actor Eduardo Fonseca to Procineas S.C.L. He subsequently took a dubbing workshop under the instruction of renowned voice actors Alfonso Obregón and Magdalena Leonel, launching a prolific career.
Vásquez is perhaps most famously known as the definitive Latin American Spanish voice of Meowth, the talking Pokémon from Team Rocket, a role he has performed consistently across the long-running anime series and numerous films. His credits include almost every major Pokémon movie, such as Pokémon: The Rise of Darkrai, Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution, and Pokémon the Movie: Secrets of the Jungle. In addition to voicing Meowth, he has been the iconic narrator for the franchise since its inception, a role for which he is beloved by fans. Beyond performance, Vásquez also served as the dubbing director for the series from its first season through the sixth, as well as for portions of the Diamond and Pearl series.
While Pokémon is a signature part of his legacy, his work in anime is extensive and varied. He voiced the powerful Escanor in The Seven Deadly Sins franchise, including the film Cursed by Light, and has taken on roles in a wide array of other popular series. His filmography includes Gouhin in BEASTARS, Charon in Fire Force, Isaac in Log Horizon: Destruction of the Round Table, Donatello in Deca-Dence, and Anderson in Great Pretender. He also provided voices for characters in Bleach, Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai, and as a narrator for both Yu-Gi-Oh! and One Piece. His deep, versatile voice has also brought to life characters in Western animation and live-action dubbing, where he is known as the regular Spanish voice for actors Samuel L. Jackson and Dwayne Johnson, having voiced Nick Fury in several Marvel Cinematic Universe films.
Throughout his career, Vásquez has frequently collaborated with a consistent group of fellow voice actors. Industry databases indicate he has worked alongside colleagues such as Jorge Ornelas, Gerardo Reyero, and Octavio Rojas on numerous projects. Outside of acting, he has also built a career in radio, working as a director and host for stations like Órbita 105.7 and as a voice for Radio Disney México. He is also a trained psychologist, having pursued the degree in his adulthood to complement his artistic work.
