Megatron is the leader of the Decepticons and a central figure in the conflict depicted in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Originally a Cybertronian warrior, he was once brothers-in-arms with Optimus Prime and served as a student of Sentinel Prime, holding the title of High Protector and commander of Cybertron's Defense Force. However, resentment toward Optimus, who was favored as a Prime, left Megatron vulnerable to manipulation by the ancient Decepticon known as the Fallen, who rekindled his ambition and set the stage for war. After being killed in the first film, Megatron is resurrected by the Constructicons using a shard of the AllSpark and parts cannibalized from other Decepticons. This rebuilt body contains an internal self-regenerating dark matter power core, which allows him to channel the AllSpark's energy and become even more formidable. His personality is ruthless, cunning, and intensely driven. He is a strategic mastermind capable of planning schemes that span millennia, yet his obsession with his goals often blinds him to secondary concerns. He harbors a deep hatred for humanity, viewing humans as insignificant insects, a feeling amplified by his years of imprisonment. Despite his brutality, Megatron genuinely desires the restoration of Cybertron and the survival of the Cybertronian race, even if it means ruling with an iron fist. In Revenge of the Fallen, his primary motivation is to serve the Fallen in activating a Star Harvester to destroy Earth's sun, but he also seeks personal revenge against Optimus Prime and the human Sam Witwicky. He plays a key role as the Fallen's enforcer, leading attacks against the Autobots and personally killing Optimus Prime during a forest battle, only for Optimus to be resurrected later and defeat him. His relationship with the Fallen is that of a subordinate, but his loyalty is ultimately to his own ambition. With Starscream, he maintains a commander‑subordinate dynamic marked by impatience and contempt. Notable abilities include his immense physical strength, a fusion cannon on his arm, a retractable blade used to impale enemies, and the capacity to transform into a Cybertronian tank.
