Description
Edward Avalaché is a character from the movie Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King. He is an elderly man, sixty-six years old, with white hair, a sharp mustache, and a beard on his chin. As the 20th Wizard King of the Clover Kingdom, he possesses immense magical power and expertise in combat.

Before rising to the highest rank among Magic Knights, Edward led a very different life as a priest at a church. He was a figure who was relied upon and adored by the common people, and he was deeply troubled by the harsh living conditions and lack of power faced by the weak. This concern for the less fortunate formed the core of his worldview. A tragic turning point occurred when the orphanage he was involved with was attacked during a war with the Diamond Kingdom, leading to the death of the children under his care. Enraged by his own powerlessness to prevent this tragedy, Edward finally decided to become a Magic Knight to gain the strength needed to ensure such an event would never happen again.

His generous nature and love for the weak earned him great respect, allowing him to rise through the ranks and eventually be crowned Wizard King. As the 20th Wizard King, Edward sought to eliminate the rigid borders between the royal, common, and forsaken regions of the kingdom. However, his revolutionary goal was seen as outrageous by the royals and nobles. Through their political machinations, they succeeded in having Edward stripped of his title. Having lost everything, including his faith, Edward formed a resistance to exact revenge on the nobility, whom he now viewed as the obstacle to a better kingdom. His insurrection was eventually suppressed, and he was captured and executed.

In the movie, Edward is one of three deceased Wizard Kings resurrected from their seals by the 27th Wizard King, Conrad Leto, using the power of the Imperial Sword Elsdocia. Edward agrees to participate in Conrad's plan to destroy the Clover Kingdom and rebuild it anew, as the goal of eliminating the corrupt royals and nobles aligns with his own unresolved quest for vengeance and justice.

Despite being an antagonist in the story, Edward possesses a strong sense of honor. He is a very serious man who rarely smiles, yet he is willing to give opponents, such as Noelle Silva and the other Black Bulls, a chance to flee rather than fight to the death. His animosity is reserved specifically for nobles and criminals, not for commoners or Magic Knights who are simply doing their duty. He fights to carry out his own version of justice, which, while at odds with the protagonists, stems from a wish to change the world for the better that was corrupted by betrayal and loss.

Edward wields a unique form of Ice Wedge Magic, also described as Ice Bindings Magic, from his three-leaf clover grimoire. This magic allows him to generate and manipulate jagged ice in combat. Notable spells include the Confession Chamber of the Frozen World, also known as World End Church, and the Guardian of the Frozen World, also known as World End Martyr. Furthermore, Edward has demonstrated the ability to use Mana Zone, a technique that allows him to control all the mana in the area around him to greatly increase the power and range of his spells, potentially lowering the temperature to absolute zero within that zone.
