Description
Crowmon is the Ultimate-level form of Falcomon, the partner Digimon to the human character Keenan Crier in Digimon Data Squad. Its design is a striking departure from Falcomon's ninja-like appearance, evolving into a large, jet-black, three-legged bird. This bizarre physical trait is a direct reference to the Yatagarasu, a mythical three-legged crow from Japanese folklore, and gives Crowmon an ominous and otherworldly presence. Its true nature, however, is not evil; within the lore of the Digital World, a being like Crowmon is said to guide the chosen to the mystical Golden Land, El Dorado, though only after they overcome three difficult trials.
In the narrative of Data Squad, Crowmon is a form achieved through the power of Keenan's Digi-Soul, specifically manifesting during a moment of intense emotional resolve to protect those he cares about. The personality of Crowmon is not distinct from Falcomon's but rather represents the peak of its power and determination. As a Digimon raised alongside a human in the Digital World, Falcomon is fiercely loyal and protective of Keenan. This loyalty is amplified in its Crowmon form, which sheds the more cautious and tactical approach of its previous forms for overwhelming, raw power. The motivation behind its actions is always singular: to defend its partner and their allies from existential threats, particularly those posed by the villainous Akihiro Kurata and his army of Gizumon.
Within the story, Crowmon's primary role is as a powerful combatant for the protagonists. Its debut occurs when it effortlessly destroys a Gizumon-XT, a type of artificial Digimon designed to delete natural Digimon, showcasing a level of strength that turns the tide in several key battles. It serves as the bridge between Falcomon's Champion form, Diatrymon, and its final Mega-level form, Ravemon. While Crowmon is a formidable force, it is not the final stage of its evolution; its development is marked by the eventual achievement of the Ravemon form, which represents an even greater mastery of power and a calmer, more focused fighting style. Key relationships are centered on its human partner, Keenan, whom it protects with unwavering ferocity, and its fellow DATS comrades, including Marcus Damon and his partner Agumon, with whom it fights side-by-side against common foes.
Notable abilities in this form are all offensively oriented. Its signature move is Savage Emperor, where it concentrates energy from golden, vajra-like ornaments called Dokkosho on its wings into its foreleg, firing a beam that can break down an opponent's digital composition into raw ones and zeroes. Another powerful technique is Black Feather, which allows Crowmon to emit a black light from its wings that plunges a three-kilometer radius into complete darkness, disorienting all enemies within the area. It also possesses pyrotechnic attacks such as Fire Jewels, which fires fireballs from its wings, and Sun Bird, where it creates a miniature sun to assault its target with super-heated energy. These abilities make Crowmon a devastating offensive powerhouse, capable of single-handedly dismantling powerful enemy forces.
