Description
Mikado Ryūgamine is a central protagonist in the second season of the Durarara!! anime series, which continues his story from the first season. He is a high school student who moved from the countryside of Saitama to the bustling district of Ikebukuro in Tokyo at the invitation of his childhood friend Masaomi Kida. His primary motivation for this move is a deep, almost obsessive desire for an exciting, unconventional life far removed from the ordinariness he experienced before. He enrols at Raira Academy and begins living alone, funding his lifestyle through part-time work he finds online.
On the surface, Mikado appears to be a polite, soft-spoken, and timid young man. He is often naive and somewhat passive, giving the impression of an average, unassuming high school boy. However, this outward meekness conceals a much more complex and darker interior. He harbours a powerful fascination with the strange and supernatural elements of Ikebukuro, such as the legendary Headless Rider. He is the founder and leader of the Dollars, a vast, anonymous online gang that started as a virtual chat group and grew into a real, influential organisation in the city. Initially, Mikado prefers a hands-off approach, believing the Dollars should be a group without rules. However, when the group becomes corrupted by violent elements, he changes his stance. In the Durarara!!×2 Ten cour, he gains absolute control over a former rival gang, the Blue Squares, and uses his newfound power to purge the Dollars from within, reshaping it into his ideal organisation. He becomes increasingly cold, manipulative, and willing to use extreme measures, such as violence and arson, to achieve his goals.
