Description
Mari Kurokawa is a sergeant first class in the Japan Self-Defense Forces and serves as the medic for the Third Recon Team led by Yōji Itami. She is a young woman in her early twenties, and her most immediately noticeable physical trait is her height, standing around 190 centimeters tall, which makes her one of the tallest members of her unit. She has black hair and blue eyes. Her demeanor is generally calm and ladylike, and she speaks in a reserved manner, but she is not afraid to speak with a sharp tongue when she feels the situation warrants it, particularly if she suspects Itami is acting on his otaku interests rather than military necessity. Beneath this occasionally sharp exterior, she is deeply caring and protective, displaying a motherly concern for the well-being of her squadmates and any civilians under their charge. Her primary motivation is the safety and health of those around her, and she takes her role as a combat medic seriously, providing both medical care and a stabilizing presence in the field. As a key member of the Third Recon Team, she participates in many of the unit's missions in the Special Region, offering both her medical expertise and her level-headed judgment. While she sometimes clashes with Itami over his unorthodox methods, she respects his capabilities and ultimately works well with the rest of the team, which includes fellow soldiers like Shino Kuribayashi and Kyouko Tomita. Throughout the series, she demonstrates her competence in handling injuries under pressure and remains a steady and reliable figure, though her character undergoes limited dramatic change, serving more as a consistent professional presence within the group. Her notable abilities include advanced training in battlefield medicine and first aid, as well as standard combat skills expected of a JSDF non-commissioned officer.
