Description
Kuroh Yatogami is an eighteen-year-old clansman of the Silver Clan and a highly disciplined swordsman. In his youth, he was taken in and trained by the late Seventh King, Ichigen Miwa, who raised him as both a protégé and a loyal vassal. Miwa’s final testament tasked Kuroh with destroying the “evil” king, a directive that initially set him on a collision course with Yashiro Isana. Through the events preceding Return of Kings, however, Kuroh came to recognize Isana as his true king and became the first official clansman of the Silver Clan.
Kuroh presents a quiet, serious, and composed exterior. He can be stubborn and quick to anger when his principles are challenged, yet he is fundamentally guided by a code that values actions over appearances or words. Beneath his stern demeanor, he shows a willingness to set aside rigid goals for the sake of genuine companionship, and he often reveals a surprisingly domestic side through his exceptional cooking and housekeeping skills.
His central motivation in Return of Kings is to protect Yashiro Isana and uphold the Silver Clan’s cause. While Isana is absent during the early part of the season, Kuroh remains steadfast, shielding their shared companion Neko and refusing offers of allegiance from other clans because of his unwavering loyalty. He serves as the clan’s primary frontline combatant, engaging the Green Clan’s operatives and defending the people he considers his new family. His role is not merely that of a bodyguard; he embodies the trust that allows Isana to focus on larger strategic concerns.
Key relationships define much of his narrative. His bond with Isana has evolved from distrust to absolute devotion. With Neko, he shares a sibling-like dynamic marked by constant bickering and a deep protective instinct, often acting as a parental figure despite his youth. He also has a complex connection to Yukari Mishakuji, a senior disciple of Ichigen Miwa who now serves the Green King. Yukari functions as a dark mirror to Kuroh, having embraced a path that abandons their master’s moral teachings, and their confrontations force Kuroh to reevaluate the meaning of his own loyalty and strength.
Kuroh’s development over the course of Return of Kings moves him from a solitary avenger bound by an old will into a cornerstone of a fledgling clan. He learns to place his faith not only in his king but also in the bonds he has formed, reconciling his warrior’s duty with the value of companionship. By the end of the conflict, his resolve has matured into a balanced conviction, one that allows him to stand alongside Isana and their allies without blind obedience.
His notable abilities center on masterful swordsmanship. He wields a katana named Kotowari—a memento of Ichigen Miwa—and employs a personal sword style rooted in that training. His physical agility, reflexes, and martial arts skill make him a match for supernatural opponents, and he can hold his own against enemies empowered by the powers of other Kings. Beyond combat, his domestic aptitude is striking; he is an excellent cook and a meticulous housekeeper, traits that highlight the gap between his intense warrior persona and his off-duty gentleness. This blend of lethal proficiency and humble domesticity creates a character defined as much by earned loyalty and quiet care as by his martial strength.
