Description
Piyocola Analogue III, commonly known as Piyoko, is a recurring character in Di Gi Charat: A Trip to the Planet. She is an eight-year-old alien princess from Planet Analogue, a neighboring world described as extremely poor, and her full name marks her as the third in the Analogue royal line. She acts as the chief of the Black Gema Gema Corps, a small group of subordinates who assist her in her schemes.
Her background is defined by hardship. Her parents left her in the care of her aides Rik, Ky, and Coo until she turns thirteen, because they were too embarrassed to show their faces after their attempt to take over Planet Di Gi Charat failed. In another incident, she accidentally destroyed a city on her homeworld and could not afford the repairs, forcing her to flee to Earth with her companions. Because Planet Analogue is so poor, her main goal is to kidnap Di Gi Charat, the princess of the neighboring planet, and demand a ransom that would restore her homeland's finances. This motivation shapes nearly everything she does, and she is often willing to push herself for the sake of her planet.
Her personality blends a self-proclaimed villainous image with genuine innocence. She declares herself evil, but her actions come from a sincere wish to help her struggling homeworld, and she is trusting and naive enough to be easily misled. Dejiko frequently outwits her and takes advantage of her trusting nature, yet Piyoko still speaks of Dejiko with a certain closeness and refers to her as big sister. She has a distinctive speech habit of ending her sentences with the syllable pyo, and she dresses in a black-and-white outfit similar to a nurse's uniform, styled like a panda.
In A Trip to the Planet, Dejiko sets out to visit her home planet with Puchiko and Gema, with Rabi~en~Rose joining by accident. Piyoko and the Black Gema Gema Corps seize the opportunity to follow the group into space and attempt to capture Dejiko, and their pursuit provides the central conflict of the story. As with her other appearances, the kidnapping plan ultimately fails. Her relationship with Dejiko is the core of her role: a rivalry built on repeated capture attempts in which Dejiko consistently comes out on top. Over the course of the wider franchise, the two show a more complicated bond, with Dejiko occasionally treating Piyoko kindly despite their ongoing conflict, and Piyoko's failures never quite extinguishing her determination.
Her most notable ability is an attack called the Upchuck Bazooka, a beam fired from her mouth that is said to be comparable in power to Dejiko's eye beam. However, she is frequently struck by Dejiko's attack before she can finish naming her own, because the name of her technique takes longer to say. She is also known for practical domestic skills, such as cooking simmered black beans, which reflects the modest and improverished circumstances she constantly tries to escape.
