Description
Dejiko, also known by her full name Di Gi Charat, is the main protagonist of the anime "Di Gi Charat - A Trip to the Planet". Her real name is Chocola, a name she dislikes due to her aversion to chocolate. She is an alien princess from the planet Di Gi Charat, making her the heir to its throne. Her background involves fleeing her homeworld after it was attacked by the Analogue King and Queen, who also kidnapped her parents. This event forced her to escape to Earth alongside her younger sister, Petit Charat (commonly known as Puchiko), and their guardian, Gema.
Physically, Dejiko is a short catgirl with bright green hair and large green eyes. Her most iconic outfit is a blue, maid-style dress adorned with large bells and ribbons. She always wears white gloves and boots, and her feline traits include white cat ears on top of her head, which feature non-functional lime-colored eyes, as well as a white tail. In "A Trip to the Planet", she is depicted in this signature costume.
Dejiko's personality presents a stark contrast to her cute and innocent appearance. She is often hot-headed, lazy, stubborn, and can be quite selfish, frequently ignoring problems unless they directly benefit her. She is known for being cheeky and cunning, with a tendency to give up easily when things become difficult or when there is no incentive. Despite these rough traits, she genuinely cares for those close to her, especially her sister Puchiko, whom she is fiercely protective of. She also has moments of remorse, such as regretting when her actions go too far against her rival. A distinctive verbal trait is her habit of ending her sentences with the cat-like sound "nyo".
In the story of "A Trip to the Planet", Dejiko's primary motivation is a feeling of homesickness, which leads her to decide to return to her home planet for a visit. Her role in this film is centered on this journey back to Di Gi Charat. She seeks permission from her employer, the manager of the Gamers store in Akihabara where she works and lives, to make the trip. Accompanied by Puchiko and Gema, and with the accidental addition of her rival Rabi~en~Rose, Dejiko travels through space. The voyage is complicated by the pursuit of Piyoko and the Black Gema Gema Gang, who constantly attempt to capture her and interfere with her journey. The film concludes with her finally reuniting with her parents on Di Gi Charat, demonstrating her underlying affection for her family and her home.
Her key relationships are central to the narrative. She shares a very close bond with her sidekick Puchiko, who is much quieter and has a contrasting personality. Gema is her long-suffering, floating, spherical guardian who is often the victim of her temper. She has a contentious relationship with Rabi~en~Rose (Hikaru Usada), a human girl who is both her rival and co-worker. Dejiko often taunts Rabi~en~Rose by calling her by her real name, Usada, to annoy her. Her antagonist is Piyoko Pyocola Analogue III, the leader of the Black Gema Gema Gang, who pursues her relentlessly.
While Dejiko does not undergo significant personal development specifically within "A Trip to the Planet", her character has shown a range of evolution across different series in the franchise. In the alternate continuity of "Winter Garden", she is depicted as a mature 20-year-old young woman working in a maid cafe, who is soft-spoken and kind, having lost most of her earlier aggression. This version also explores a romantic aspect of her life. In the prequel "Panyo Panyo Di Gi Charat", she is portrayed as a younger, much kinder, and more altruistic child whose goal is to spread happiness.
Dejiko possesses one notable and formidable ability: the Laser Eye Beam, which she fires from her eyes. This beam, often triggered by anger or annoyance, is highly destructive and powerful enough to damage buildings. While Puchiko shares a similar ability, it is much less developed and reliable.
