Asami Sanada
Description
Asami Sanada is a established Japanese voice actress and stage performer, known for her versatile voice work across a wide range of anime series and video games since her debut in the late 1990s. She was born on September 8, 1977, in Ueda, Nagano Prefecture, and is a graduate of the Tokyo Announce Gakuin performing arts college.
Sanada's career began in 1998 with a role on the radio program "Vanilla's Secret". Her big break came in 1999 when she won the grand prize at a public audition for the original "Di Gi Charat" project, securing the lead role of Dejiko (Di Gi Charat). This high-energy, quirky character became her debut anime role and a defining part of her early career, launching her into the spotlight. Throughout her career, she has been affectionately nicknamed "Asa-nee" by her fans.
Following her debut, Sanada expanded her repertoire with numerous significant roles. She is well-known for playing Vita, the feisty knight, across the "Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha" franchise, including appearances in "A's," "StrikerS," and related films. She also took on the role of the introverted Jun Sakurada in the "Rozen Maiden" series, showcasing her ability to portray younger male characters. In the comedy genre, she is recognized for her work as Matoi Tsunetsuki in the "Sayonara, Zetsubou-Sensei" series and as Kanako Miyamae in "Maria Holic".
A significant later-career highlight is her portrayal of the immensely popular and complex character Kurumi Tokisaki in the "Date A Live" series. She has voiced the role in multiple television seasons, including "Date A Live III" and "Date A Live IV," as well as in spin-off works like "Date A Bullet," making the character one of her most recognized performances. Other notable roles that demonstrate her range include Sawako Yamanaka in "K-On!," Mari Nishino in "This Ugly Yet Beautiful World," Louise Fort Drake in "The Galaxy Railways," Mio Kunosato in "Chaos;Child," and Sayless in the "YU-NO" adaptation. She has also been active in the "PriPara" franchise, voicing the character Gaaruru.
Throughout her career, Sanada has had notable recurring collaborations, particularly with fellow voice actress Miyuki Sawashiro. The two have worked together frequently since their joint debut in "Di Gi Charat," forming a close professional relationship and appearing together in series such as "Rozen Maiden" and "Maria Holic". Along with Sawashiro and Kyoko Hikami, she was part of the voice-acting unit D.U.P., which performed theme songs for the "Di Gi Charat" series. She is also known to be close friends with voice actress Marina Inoue.
In recognition of her career and connection to her hometown, Sanada was appointed as a "Ueda City Goodwill Ambassador" (also referred to as a tourism ambassador) in November 2013, alongside artist Megumi Hayashibara. After being a freelancer for a period, she joined her current talent agency, Amuleto, in August 2011. She announced her marriage on her blog in November 2013 and later shared that she had divorced in 2019.
