Description
Magical Domiko is a fictional anime character who exists within the world of the series "Nanaka 6/17" as the protagonist of a popular children's magical girl show that the main character, Nanaka, adored as a child. Her real name is Miko Shishido. She is accompanied by a small, bunny-like fairy mascot partner. Although his true name is Pikoto, Domiko consistently calls him Pikota, a misnomer which visibly irritates him. Her primary rival is a green-haired magical girl named Chemical Kemiko, who is depicted as older and larger than Domiko and is known for riding an upright vacuum cleaner.

The core concept of the "Magical Domiko" show revolves around Domiko's ability to use magic to transform herself into a grown-up, taking on different professional roles to solve problems and save the day. She performs this transformation using a magical wand and a spell called Magical Domikal. Her magical solutions are often whimsical and mundane, such as using magic to grow two inches taller or shrinking her feet by a few millimeters to fit into a desired pair of shoes, much to her partner Pikota's frustration. In a more substantial story arc, she grapples with the desire to be recognized for her true self, Miko Shishido, rather than her magical alter ego. This internal conflict leads her to break her wand, but she later repairs it and accepts that both sides of her identity are one and the same.

Within the narrative of "Nanaka 6/17", Magical Domiko serves as a crucial piece of the plot and a defining element for the main character. After a traumatic accident regresses Nanaka Kirisato's mental state to that of a six-year-old, her childhood friend Nenji Nagihara explains the sudden seventeen-year gap in her memory by telling her that she had magically grown up, just like her favorite anime heroine, Magical Domiko. This framework allows the regressed Nanaka to accept her situation, and she becomes obsessed with anything related to the show, from merchandise like wands, umbrellas, and figures to reenacting scenes and even proposing a Magical Domiko play for her school's cultural festival. The short comedy vignettes featuring Domiko and Pikota that appear at the end of each episode of "Nanaka 6/17" parody common magical girl tropes and the nature of the show's own premise. Through these vignettes, Domiko is portrayed as a well-meaning but somewhat scatterbrained magical girl whose attempts at demonstrating her magical prowess or delivering public service announcements often end in humorous failure or mundane anticlimax, much to the chagrin of her long-suffering partner. The character of Magical Domiko ultimately represents the joy, imagination, and simpler worldview associated with childhood that the series explores in contrast to the pressures of growing up.
