Description
Kazuki Kazusano is introduced as a new central character in the second season of the anime, serving as a primary antagonist and a rival figure to the established group. She is a young nun, approximately fifteen years old, who is sent as a secret envoy from a temple that opposes the doctrines of the Saienji temple where the main characters reside. Her fundamental purpose is to forcibly awaken the immense spiritual power that slumbers within the protagonist, Ikkou. Unlike the other nuns who aim to help Ikkou control his abilities, Kazuki comes from a temple that believes liberation from worldly desires is unnecessary for spiritual enlightenment, leading her to employ methods that are considered taboo by her rivals.

In terms of personality, Kazuki presents a cheerful, enthusiastic, and outwardly gentle demeanor that fits a very "moe" character archetype. However, this pleasant exterior conceals a deeply perverse and calculating nature. She is highly determined and willing to use any means necessary to achieve her goal, including openly and shamelessly seducing Ikkou. Her strategies often involve intentionally creating sexually suggestive situations, as she is a firm believer that awakening his power through arousal is the most effective path. She enjoys overacting her part and is shown to be quite physically strong. Beneath her relentless pursuit of Ikkou lies a personal motivation: she believes that if she can successfully awaken him, she can also unlock and control her own inherent but unstable spiritual powers through their union.

Kazuki's role in the story is to act as a catalyst and a source of external conflict. Her arrival disrupts the existing dynamic at Saienji temple, as she constantly tries to isolate Ikkou and provoke his transformation. This puts her in direct opposition to the other female leads, most notably Chitose, who develops intense feelings of jealousy towards Kazuki's advances. Kazuki is undeterred by this rivalry and frequently challenges Chitose, both for Ikkou's attention and in more formal settings like school athletic carnivals. She appears to reject the idea that Ikkou's power is inherently dangerous, arguing that its nature is fundamentally good, a stance that puts her at odds with the cautious approach of the Saienji monks.

Her key relationships are primarily defined by her obsession with Ikkou. While she claims to want to help him develop his abilities, her method of "help" is entirely self-serving and focused on achieving her own spiritual release. She has little genuine interest in the other nuns, viewing them as obstacles to be overcome, though she does possess a degree of respect for Sakura. Her persistent advances are frequently thwarted, often due to Chitose's interference or the unintended consequences of her own schemes, such as accidentally releasing evil spirits.

Kazuki possesses notable abilities that distinguish her from the other nuns. While they are mikos, or shrine maidens, her powers are described as being closer to those of a traditional nun. She is capable of performing exorcisms on her own, though she finds this process less satisfying compared to witnessing Ikkou's awakenings. In a thematic representation of Buddhist cosmology, Kazuki is associated with the Naraka realm, which is the realm of hell. In keeping with this, she is accompanied by a small, fire-breathing demon that serves as her friend and pet. This creature can transform into a much larger and more powerful demon under certain conditions, such as when another character loses control of her inner darkness.

Throughout the series, Kazuki shows little to no character development in the traditional sense until the final episode. She remains singularly focused on her mission, escalating her attempts to seduce Ikkou with the help of her subordinates. Her motivations are partially reframed near the conclusion, where she explains that her relentless pursuit stemmed from an empathy for Ikkou, who was sent to a temple at a very young age, as she believes she understands his loneliness. In the climax, she finally succeeds in over-awakening Ikkou. However, the result is not the mutual ascension she had hoped for. Instead, she is consumed by his overwhelming power and disappears into his soul. She is only freed when Chitose manages to appeal to Ikkou's consciousness, neutralizing his power and releasing Kazuki, who survives the ordeal.
