TV Special
Description
Di Gi Charat, most often called Dejiko for short, is the central character of the Di Gi Charat Summer Special. Her real name is Chocola, a name she dislikes as it refers to chocolate, and she is the princess of a planet also named Di Gi Charat. She fled her home world with her younger sister, Petit Charat, known as Puchiko, and their guardian, Gema, after it was invaded by the forces of the analogue planet. Upon arriving on Earth, this group of aliens took up residence in a room above the Gamers store in Akihabara, Tokyo, where they began working as staff to pay for their lodging. The store’s manager gave her the nickname Dejiko.

In terms of personality, Dejiko presents a striking contrast between her cute, feline appearance and her often sharp, bratty behavior. She is frequently described as hot-headed, lazy when not properly motivated, stubborn, and selfish. She has a tendency to be rude and dismissive, especially towards her fans, who she sometimes calls bukimi, or her rival, Rabi~en~Rose. Despite these traits, she is not without her better qualities. She is genuinely protective of Puchiko, often acting as a surrogate parent, and can occasionally show remorse for her more destructive actions. Her most famous verbal tic is the habit of ending her sentences with the cat-like sound nyo.

Dejiko’s primary motivation is her dream of becoming a top idol singer, which is her stated reason for aiming to conquer Earth. However, she is also easily swayed by more immediate and materialistic goals. For instance, her intense love for the fermented soybean dish natto serves as a powerful incentive; in one episode of the Summer Special, she enters a band contest specifically to win a ten-year supply of it. In the Di Gi Charat Summer Special, her role is to drive the comedic and whimsical adventures. The story follows her and her companions through several self-contained episodes. These include a trip to America to retrieve Puchiko with the help of a young fan named Rodoyan, a band competition in Akihabara, and a mysterious mountain trip where people begin to disappear.

The most important relationships in Dejiko’s life are with her small group of alien companions. Puchiko, her younger sister, has a calm and stoic personality that serves as a direct foil to Dejiko’s energetic and often bossy nature. Gema is a small, floating, yellow, smiley-faced creature who acts as their guardian and provides additional comic relief. Outside of her family unit, her most significant relationship is her heated rivalry with Rabi~en~Rose, a human girl with rabbit-like features who works alongside her at the Gamers store. Dejiko frequently antagonizes Rabi~en~Rose, often by calling her by her real name, Usada, leading to chaotic fights that routinely result in the destruction of the store.

Dejiko possesses a singular and destructive special ability: the Me Kara Beam, or eye-beam. This powerful energy attack is fired from her eyes and is typically triggered by intense emotions like anger or frustration. The beams are strong enough to cause significant damage to buildings and other structures. In some versions of the character, she also has the ability to change her size at will. Her iconic design features bright green hair and eyes, a hat with cat ears that have non-functional yellow eyes on them, a white cat tail, and a blue maid-style dress adorned with several large bells tied with ribbons. Throughout the Summer Special, Dejiko remains a static character, with her development being minimal as the narrative focuses on her humorous and chaotic reactions to the various situations she and her friends find themselves in.
