Description
Di Gi Charat, commonly nicknamed Dejiko, is a princess from the planet Di Gi Charat. Born on November 12, 1989, in Di Gi Charat Castle, she is the daughter of the planet's Great Chief and Queen. Her younger sister is Puchiko (Petit Charat). Her real name is Chocola, though she dislikes chocolate; her father granted her the title "Di Gi Charat" to signify her royal status as heir to the throne.
In *Panyo Panyo Di Gi Charat*, Dejiko appears as an eight-year-old living on her home planet. Her classic blue maid outfit shifts to a pink dress with darker pink ribbons, pink Mary Jane shoes, and a white cat-eared hat adorned with gold bells, complemented by a white cat-shaped bag. This design presents a more youthful, chibi-like aesthetic. Her personality significantly adapts after reading a book about philanthropy; vowing to spread happiness across her planet, she radiates kindness, selflessness, and eagerness to help others, marking a departure from her typically hot-headed and self-centered traits. She retains a stubborn streak, especially when pursuing her goal of helping people. Occasional frustration or anger surfaces, such as using her laser eye beams during failed escape attempts or reacting irritably to Gema's jokes, though less severely than in other incarnations.
Dejiko travels with Puchiko and her guardian Gema, a floating yellow entity of unknown species chaperoning her under the castle tutor's orders. New companions include Rinna, a cake shop owner prone to sudden sleep, and Meek, a tomboyish fishmonger. Their group encounters opposition from Piyoko, a six-year-old antagonist, and Deji Devil, a non-corporeal entity aiming to spread misery. Dejiko treats them more as nuisances than genuine threats, even referring to Piyoko familiarly as "Piyoko-chan." Her abilities include laser eye beams generated from intense emotion, used sparingly and less aggressively here. Her speech consistently ends with the verbal tic "-nyo."
Across other media, Dejiko's character evolves. In the main *Di Gi Charat* continuity, she flees to Earth at age ten after her planet's invasion, working at a Gamers store while aspiring to become an idol. This version displays laziness, a quick temper, and rudeness, often firing eye beams at annoyances like rival Rabi~en~Rose or fans she dubs "Bukimi." *Winter Garden*, an alternate storyline, depicts her as a twenty-year-old working in a maid café. Her design matures into an adult human form with less saturated green hair, normal clothing, and no animal accessories beyond a symbolic headband. Her personality softens into a gentle, responsible figure caring for Puchiko and navigating romantic feelings for a coworker, showcasing complete transformation from her earlier brattiness. A 2008 redesign briefly altered her appearance with red eyes, side-swept bangs, and an ornate light-blue maid dress, later reverted by 2013.
