TV-Series
Description
Jun Sakurada is a central human character in the Rozen Maiden series, initially introduced as a fourteen-year-old boy living as a recluse. He is of average height with a slim build, messy black hair, and green eyes, often seen wearing casual sweaters and trousers along with a pair of glasses. His life as a shut-in, a phenomenon known as hikikomori, is triggered by a deeply traumatic incident at his school. Jun possessed a secret talent for sewing and clothing design, which he pursued as a personal interest. When his class held a contest to design a dress for a representative, Jun's sketch was entered without his permission and won. He was publicly announced as the designer in a school assembly, leading his male classmates to mock him with accusations of being a pervert for creating a dress for a girl. The overwhelming shame and pressure from this event caused him to become physically ill in front of the entire school, after which he refused to ever return. His parents, who are antique dealers, are frequently overseas for work, leaving Jun in the care of his older sister, Nori, who patiently endures his abuse and attempts to care for him.

In his isolation, Jun spends most of his time in front of his computer, finding a strange thrill in ordering fake magical or occult items from the Internet and returning them before the payment is due. His life is upended when he receives a mysterious letter asking him to choose whether to wind or not wind. After he answers in the affirmative, an ornate case appears in his room containing a beautiful, high-class ball-jointed doll named Shinku. Upon winding her key, she comes to life and promptly declares Jun to be her servant, ordering him to fetch her tea and obey her commands. Despite their antagonistic beginning, Jun is forced to become her medium, meaning she draws life energy from him to power her abilities in a series of battles known as the Alice Game.

Jun's personality is a complex mixture of arrogance, rudeness, and deep-seated insecurity. He is often cold and dismissive, particularly towards his sister Nori, whom he considers clumsy and overbearing. However, beneath this gruff exterior, he possesses a genuine capacity for kindness and caring, which he typically refuses to show openly. He becomes especially protective of the child-like doll Hinaichigo, with whom he shares a friendship resembling that of a brother and younger sister. As the story progresses, Jun's motivations evolve from simply wanting to get rid of the troublesome dolls to a fierce determination to protect them. He grows to strongly believe that Shinku and the other dolls, as sisters, should not be forced to fight or keep secrets from one another, and he actively tries to resist the futility of the Alice Game.

Jun's role in the story is not just that of a reluctant master, but a true partner and source of strength. As he bonds with Shinku, his character undergoes significant development. The presence of the Rozen Maidens in his home forces him to confront his fears. By the events of Rozen Maiden träumend, he sheds much of his hikikomori lifestyle, becoming more sociable and kind. He ventures out to the library to catch up on his school studies and forms a friendship with Tomoe Kashiwaba, who helps him. His key relationship is undeniably with Shinku. Though she constantly abuses him verbally and physically, usually hitting him with her cane, a deep and mutual care develops between them. He often blushes around her, signaling a profound affection that goes beyond a simple master-servant dynamic. He also forms a contract with the twin doll Suiseiseki, who develops a tsundere-like crush on him, though Jun is often oblivious to her advances.

Jun possesses several notable abilities that set him apart from ordinary humans. He is revealed to be extraordinarily skilled at crafts and sewing. Shinku states that watching him sew is like witnessing magic or a beautiful melody being played. This talent transcends mere handiwork; Jun has a supernatural aptitude for repairing dolls that borders on the miraculous. When Shinku's arm is torn off by the villainous Suigintou, Jun is able to reattach it through a mysterious magical bond, even restoring the soul of a broken, old doll. It is heavily implied that his skills are remarkably similar to those of Rozen, the legendary creator of the dolls, and that he may have the potential to become the next Rozen. Furthermore, Jun demonstrates an immense reserve of spiritual energy. Most human mediums struggle to support a single doll in battle, often becoming drained and pale. Jun, however, is able to serve as the master for three dolls—Shinku, Suiseiseki, and even Souseiseki in a technical sense—simultaneously, fueling their battles with little to no visible strain, a fact that even the other dolls find extraordinary.
