Description
Dita Liebely is a 16-year-old apprentice pilot from the planet Mejere and serves as the female protagonist of her story. She has long red hair, blue eyes, and a petite build. Her typical outfit consists of a black crop top, a white jacket with pink linings, a white skirt, and white and black boots.

Dita is defined by her extraordinarily cheerful, bubbly, and lively personality, which manifests in nearly every situation, including combat. She maintains a smile on her face even during tense moments, a trait that can sometimes perplex her allies. She admits that this unwavering positivity is a conscious effort to prevent those around her from becoming too sad or serious about the events they face, a habit she developed as a child when her home unit on Mejere was shut down and she tried to cheer up the upset residents by acting foolishly. As a result of focusing so heavily on being a source of joy, she admits she never learned how to act in genuinely sad situations. Despite her often childish demeanor, she is also a surprisingly skilled cook.

Her core motivation is rooted in a childhood fantasy that benevolent aliens would one day arrive and take her to a land of happiness in their spaceship. This fantasy shapes her worldview and drives her fascination with the extraordinary. Her primary driving force throughout the narrative is her immediate and unwavering infatuation with Hibiki Tokai, a young man from the male-dominated planet Taraak. She believes him to be the alien she has always dreamed of and affectionately nicknames him Mr. Alien, while he in turn calls her that UFO Girl. Her straightforward and open affection for a male is a source of ridicule and disbelief among her fellow female crew members, who were raised in a culture that views men as a hostile alien species, but she remains undeterred. It is not until the final episode of the second season that she finally calls him by his real name.

In battle, Dita pilots a distinctive blue Dread, a Mejere fighting vessel. Her Dread is one of three exposed to a mysterious phenomenon known as Paeksis light, which grants it the unique ability to merge with Hibiki's Vanguard. This combination produces a powerful humanoid mecha called the Vandread Dita-type, also known as the Blue Kachina, with Kachina meaning life bringer. This blue giant is an embodiment of offensive power, equipped with two powerful dual energy cannons that can be configured for long-range bombardment, short-range combat as arm-mounted lances, or combined into a single powerful javelin. As the story progresses into the second season, her combat skills mature, and she rises to a co-leading rank among the pilots, directly under the more senior pilots Jura and Barnette.

Her most significant relationship is with Hibiki, which forms the emotional core of the narrative. While the other characters often view her behavior with exasperation, her relentless cheerfulness proves invaluable, helping to restore the crew's spirit during a critical battle. Among her fellow pilots, she has a notable dynamic with Barnette Orangello, who frequently expresses contempt for her forward antics, though Dita never seems to mind the disapproval. Over time, her role on the crew evolves from an inexperienced and distractible pilot into a respected if still eccentric fighter. Her journey involves a gradual emotional maturity, and by the end of the series, she and Hibiki confess their feelings for each other. In supplementary material, it is revealed that they eventually marry and have a daughter.
