Description
Pyoro is a small robot who appears throughout the Vandread story, including the events covered by Vandread Turbulence. Originally, Pyoro was a navigation robot, referred to as a NAVI robot, that served aboard the old colony ship Ikazuchi. When Hibiki Tokai is discovered stowing away on the upgraded Ikazuchi, Pyoro is assigned to guard him while Hibiki is held prisoner behind an electronic barrier. After the Ikazuchi merges with the pirate vessel of Mejere to form the Nirvana, the ship's chief engineer, Parfet Balblair, gives the old NAVI robot the name Pyoro after hearing it speak.

Pyoro does not gain a true consciousness until he is overloaded with an intense electric shock. The experience makes him self-aware, and from that point he begins to spontaneously say his own name, often even when he is not part of any conversation. The mysterious Praksis energy also plays a role in his transformation, causing him to evolve and develop a distinct personality along with a quirky way of speaking in which he tends to end sentences with the sound pyoro.

In terms of personality, Pyoro is curious, playful, and childlike. He is fascinated by things he does not fully understand and approaches the world around him with an open and often enthusiastic attitude. His emotions appear to be closely connected to the state of the Nirvana itself, as he becomes unwell or acts sick whenever something is wrong with the ship. He is also deeply loyal to the crew and takes genuine interest in their lives. When Ezra is discovered to be pregnant, Pyoro becomes intensely curious about babies and about how human beings are born. After the child arrives, he takes on the role of a devoted nanny and insists that everyone call the baby Pyoro2, even though Ezra has already named her Calua.

Pyoro's motivations are rooted in loyalty, curiosity, and a desire to be helpful. He stays close to those he cares about and willingly throws himself into whatever task seems important to the crew, whether that means assisting the chief engineer, looking after a newborn, or supporting the ship during combat. His role in the story is primarily that of a supportive companion and a link between the crew and the ship's systems. He is frequently seen in the company of either Hibiki or Parfet, and Parfet uses him as a conduit to the Praksis energy that powers much of the Nirvana's technology.

Over the course of the story, Pyoro develops from a simple guard and navigation unit into a self-aware and emotionally expressive member of the crew. His growth is shown through his deepening attachments, especially his bond with Hibiki, his working relationship with Parfet, and his affectionate care for Ezra's baby. His most dramatic moment of development comes during the Nirvana's second battle with a harvester mothership, when he becomes the core of the Super Vandread, a combined form sometimes referred to as Vandread Pyoro. In this role, he serves as the central component that allows the powerful fusion unit to function.

Pyoro's notable abilities include his original navigation functions, his capacity for speech after gaining self-awareness, and his sensitivity to the condition of the Nirvana, which allows his own state to serve as an indicator of the ship's health. He can also act as a conduit for Praksis energy and, most significantly, integrate himself as the core of the Super Vandread during major combat. Despite his small size, he proves to be an important and dependable presence in the lives of those around him.
