OVA
Description
Campari is a central figure in the OVA series Jing, King of Bandits: Seventh Heaven, serving as the primary target of the protagonist, the master thief Jing. He is an inmate of the inescapable maximum-security prison known as Seventh Heaven, where he is known as a peddler of dreams. His background reveals that he is a conjurer and illusionist with the extraordinary ability to crystallize dreams into tangible objects using a special artifact called the Dream Orb. He would sell these crystallized dreams, allowing others to experience any scenario they desired, but he also used this power for extortion and fraud, which ultimately led to his incarceration. Campari is also a survivor of the Acacia tribe, and his heart carries deep sorrow from the tragedy that destroyed his homeland.

In terms of personality, Campari presents a facade that is calm and smug, appearing as a wolf hiding among the prison population rather than a victim waiting to be fleeced. Yet beneath this controlled exterior lies a profound underlying sadness, which is visibly reflected in his eyes and demeanor. He has chosen to anesthetize himself within the empty illusions of his own making, creating a labyrinth of dreams to dwell in as a way to escape from a world that he feels has betrayed him. This self-imposed exile into his fantasy world defines his motivations; he has little interest in leaving the prison, preferring instead to live in his memories and crafted realities.

Campari's role in the story is that of an antagonistic force and gatekeeper. Jing allows himself to be captured and sent to Seventh Heaven specifically to steal Campari's Dream Orb, which is described as an invaluable collection of dreams from around the globe. Once Jing confronts him, Campari uses his powers to trap the bandit king and his parrot companion Kir within a prison of dreams. He attempts to subdue Jing by forcing him through a series of bizarre and dangerous dream-worlds, including a vision that takes Jing back to his own youth. However, the confrontation forces Campari to confront his own past as well. A key relationship in his story is with a dream-girl named Benedictine, who is later revealed to be a representation of a person from his memories, trapped within his subconscious. She serves as a guide through his dreamscapes, and the clues to Campari's heart are tied to his lost love for her and the memory of his village, Acacia.

Campari undergoes a significant change due to Jing's interference. Rather than simply stealing the orb, Jing pieces together the puzzle of Campari's heart, forcing the magician to remember the good times of his childhood, his homeland, and his love for Benedictine. This act shatters the hectic, tragic facade of his dream prison, exposing the golden, beautiful memories beneath. In his moment of clarity, Campari aids Jing in escaping from Seventh Heaven and causes a riot by releasing all the dreams he had collected back to the other prisoners. Ultimately, Campari is caught off guard during the chaos, and Jing successfully steals the Dream Orb from him, completing his heist.

Regarding his notable abilities, Campari is a powerful illusionist and magician whose primary skill is the manipulation of dreams. Using the Dream Orb, he can physically remove a person's dream and transform it into a crystal that others can consume to experience that dream themselves. He can also trap individuals within intricately constructed, reality-warping dream worlds of his own design, which function as an inescapable labyrinth of illusions. These dream prisons often reflect the innermost thoughts and past traumas of the person trapped within, as seen when he shows Jing a vision of his first meeting with Kir.
