In the anime Di Gi Charat Nyo, Aqua is a mermaid whom the main character Dejiko happens to catch while fishing in the ocean. Although she looks very young, her true age is considerably advanced, being one hundred and twenty years old. A notable feature of Aqua is that even when she comes onto land, the lower half of her body remains that of a fish. To move around on dry land, she relies on a rollerboard. She has an older sister, who is described as a half-fisherman and bears no resemblance to Aqua. Later in the story, both Aqua and her sister come to live together in the pond or fountain of Manekineko Park.
