TV-Series
Description
Di Gi Charat, most often referred to as Dejiko, is a character of many contradictions. Behind an exterior of frilly dresses and cat-ear accessories lies a princess who is lazy, quick-tempered, and often selfish, yet she remains the endearing center of her stories.

Dejiko is an alien princess from the planet Di Gi Charat, where her real name is Chocola. She is easily recognized as a catgirl, a trait emphasized by her habit of ending her sentences with the verbal tic "-nyo". She has short green hair and large green eyes, though a later redesign in 2008 changed her eye color to red before eventually reverting to the original green. Her standard outfit is a white and navy blue maid-style dress adorned with large bells tied into her hair with ribbons. She also sports white gloves, boots, a white tail, and a cat-ear headpiece that features a pair of large, non-functional yellow cat eyes on top of her head.

In the series Di Gi Charat Nyo, Dejiko is ten years old and is the Royal Princess of her home planet. Her troublesome and lazy behavior, which often involves her firing powerful beams from her eyes at tutors who try to lecture her, becomes too much for her mother to handle. As a result, she is sent to Earth for princess training, but her mother only provides her spaceship with enough fuel for a one-way trip to prevent her from returning too soon. Upon arriving on Earth, Dejiko becomes separated from her companion, Puchiko, and ends up staying with two brothers, Kiyoshi and Yasushi Omocha, at their toy store, Super Omo-chan. Her motivation throughout the series is not necessarily to become a wise ruler, but often simpler, such as her love for candies and sweets, which can easily persuade her to take action.

Dejiko’s personality is a stark subversion of the innocent and sweet image her appearance projects. While she can be energetic and helpful when properly motivated, she more commonly displays a volatile temperament, characterized by laziness, stubbornness, and a distinct lack of respect for those who annoy her. She is prone to vanity, selfishness, and a cunning carelessness that often leads to chaos. Her most infamous trait is her tendency to resort to violence, primarily through her signature ability, the Laser Eye Beam, which she fires from her eyes when frustrated or angered. This beam is fueled by fierce emotion and is powerful enough to destroy a building, and she unleashes it freely on anyone who provokes her, from rivals to her own long-suffering guardian, a floating yellow sphere named Gema. Despite this difficult nature, she does show a genuine, if not always obvious, care for her close friend and sidekick, Puchiko, whose personality is quieter and often contrasts sharply with Dejiko's loudness.

Key relationships drive much of the story. Alongside Puchiko, Dejiko is often accompanied by Gema, who serves as a failed mentor and common target of her frustration. She also has a rivalry with a human aspiring idol named Rabi en Rose, who often proves to be more skilled and sympathetic, yet consistently loses out to Dejiko as the main character. Dejiko's role in Di Gi Charat Nyo is centered on her interactions with the inhabitants of the toy shop and her various schemes, which are frequently interrupted by her rival Piyoko and the Black Gema Gema Gang, though she treats them more as nuisances than genuine threats.

Dejiko's character has shown different facets across various media. In later adaptations like Winter Garden, she is portrayed as a gentle and mature twenty-year-old working in a maid cafe, a stark contrast to her bratty ten-year-old self. However, in the context of Di Gi Charat Nyo, her development is minimal, with her primary traits remaining her explosive temper, her reliance on her devastating eye-beams, and her surprising ability to be a lovable character despite her often terrible behavior.
