TV Special
Description
Mahoro Ando is an android originally designated as combat unit V1046-R MAHORO, created by the secret organization VESPER to fight an alien invasion force known as Saint. Possessing immense speed and power that made her a formidable weapon, she was constructed using alien technology that granted her a true soul and a pure heart. However, her operational life is limited, and at the start of her story, she has only 398 days remaining before her systems will cease to function. Given the freedom to choose how to spend her final days, Mahoro decides to leave the battlefield and become a maid for Suguru Misato, a young man whose father was her former commanding officer. Mahoro was forced to kill Sugurus father when an alien took him hostage, and her decision to serve Suguru is driven by a deep sense of guilt and a desire to atone for this act.

In her role as a maid, Mahoro has a sunny, sweet-natured, and well-mannered personality. She is kind-hearted and friendly to everyone she meets, quickly becoming a welcomed regular at local markets and gaining fame at Sugurus school. She is an exceptionally skilled cook, capable of turning the simplest leftover ingredients into a nutritious and delicious meal. Despite being an android, she experiences a full range of human emotions and functions, including the ability to eat, sleep, and feel pain. Her feelings for Suguru are a complex blend of a doting mother's care and a shy girlfriend's affection. She is also notably self-conscious about her small breasts, which is a source of rivalry with the well-endowed teacher, Shikijo-sensei.

A defining and comedic aspect of her personality is her extreme hostility towards anything she considers perverted. This includes a particular intolerance for pornographic magazines, which she relentlessly confiscates from Suguru. Her famous catchphrase, "Ecchi na no wa ikenai to omoimasu," translates to "I think that dirty thoughts are bad". This moral strictness was reportedly instilled in her by Suguru's father as part of her training. In the Mahoromatic Summer Special, the central conflict arises directly from this trait when Mahoro discovers a pornographic magazine in Sugurus room. Outraged, she organizes the other female characters in a comedic mission to purge the house of all such illicit material.

Even in her role as a maid, Mahoro retains access to her formidable arsenal from her days as a soldier. She can summon a flying device called the Silpheed and her support mech, Slash, from the badge she wears on her uniform. She also keeps her personal vehicles, a fully equipped red BMW 330Ci convertible and a red MV Agusta motorcycle. She is able to produce a gun at any time, and her combat instincts remain sharp. Throughout the series, Mahoro develops a stronger bond with Suguru, who eventually gives her the family name Andou, short for android, as she originally had no surname. Her pure heart and genuine soul are central to her character, and her motivations are rooted in her love for Suguru and her desire to live a peaceful, meaningful life in the time she has left.
