Description
Coquelicot is a central character in the Parisian branch of the combat troupe, known as the youngest member of the Paris Assault Force. Her background is defined by hardship and resilience. Originally an orphan from Vietnam, she has no memory of when or how she came to France. She lives and works at the Cirque de Europe in Paris, where she endures an abusive ringmaster who provides her with only meager meals. Despite these difficult circumstances, she remains at the circus due to her profound love for the animals she cares for there, as well as the necessity of having a roof over her head.

In terms of personality, Coquelicot is often seen smiling, a cheerful and charming presence among her peers. However, this outward happiness serves to mask deep-seated feelings of loneliness and sadness stemming from her orphaned state and the poor treatment she receives at the circus. She finds genuine companionship in the circus animals, treating them as her friends. Her motivations are rooted in a desire for belonging and family. This is powerfully illustrated when a new performer named Karuchela joins the circus and shares stories of losing her own daughter, leading Coquelicot to desperately call her Mama, seeking a maternal connection she never had.

Her role in the story begins when her spiritual powers are awakened by the shock of being deceived and betrayed by the villain Garuchea (also known as Python in human form). After this event, she is invited to join the Paris Assault Force, which she does voluntarily. Although other members like Erica and Glycine initially express reservations and concerns about her youth and ability, Coquelicot quickly proves her value as a team member during her first battle. Following the defeat of Python, she continues her dual life; she takes over as the ringmaster at the circus in the morning after the original ringmaster is murdered, and performs as a magician at the cabaret Chattes Noires in the evening.

Key relationships greatly influence her development. Her most significant connection is with Captain Ichiro Ogami. When they first meet, she refers to him as Oji-san, an informal Japanese term for old man, but later becomes more familiar and calls him by his first name, Ichiro. Ogami takes notice of her sad background at the circus and feels pity for her. In a possible future scenario, Coquelicot saves money for months to travel to Japan to reunite with him, boldly declaring her intent to marry him and confiding her dream of building a large family together while still caring for her beloved animals. She also shares a bond with her teammate Hanabi Kitaoji, as both feel they lack parents. When Hanabi's father appears, Coquelicot shows her quick thinking and protectiveness by covering for the team and giving a passionate speech about not being taken away.

Coquelicot possesses notable abilities in both performance and combat. She is a skilled magician and animal trainer at the circus, talents that also make her an effective fighter. Her primary combat capability comes from piloting a steam-powered mech known as a Koubu, which she operates using her spiritual powers. Her development arc sees her transform from a lonely, exploited orphan into a confident and valued member of a found family. Through the Paris Assault Force and the Chattes Noires, she gains a sense of purpose and community, ultimately finding the familial bonds she always lacked.
