Description
Erica Fontaine is a sixteen-year-old French girl who serves as a novice nun at a convent in Paris while also performing as a cabaret dancer at the theater Le Chattes Noires. Born on August 15, 1909, she has brown hair typically tied in a low ponytail and brown eyes, standing 156 centimeters tall. She becomes a central member of the Paris Combat Revue's Fleur Division, a secret group that defends the city from supernatural threats.
Her history is marked by tragedy. She was orphaned at a young age when her adoptive parents died in a car accident. In the crash, she accidentally unleashed latent spiritual powers to survive, but the burst of energy injured bystanders. This event led to fear and rumors that branded her the Angel of Montmartre. Subsequently, a priest named Father Leno took her in at his church, where she decided to dedicate her life to becoming a nun.
Personality wise, Erica is defined by her unwavering optimism, kindness, and an almost legendary degree of clumsiness. She genuinely desires to help everyone she meets, but her good intentions frequently result in unintended destruction, such as damaging religious statues or making inedible meals. She can be oblivious to serious situations, sometimes falling asleep during crises or fixating on small joys like sweets and pudding. She also has a strong but often inaccurate fascination with Japanese culture, leading to frequent misunderstandings. Beneath her cheerful and energetic exterior, she harbors deep-seated insecurities about her own worth and perceived inadequacies, feeling she causes more trouble than good due to her clumsiness and inability to control her powers.
Erica is introduced as the very first member selected for the Paris Combat Revue. A key figure in her development is Father Leno, who acts as her guardian and teaches her a unique wake-up routine involving maracas. Her journey takes a critical turn when she overhears Father Leno asking Ichiro Ogami, the newly arrived captain of the division, to request that she leave the convent because of the chaos she causes. Heartbroken and believing she is unwanted, she runs away. However, during a subsequent attack on Le Chattes Noires by the villain Corbeau, her desire to protect her friends unlocks her spiritual powers fully. In this awakened state, her usual clumsiness vanishes and she becomes focused and divinely competent in combat. Following this event, she is given a room in the attic of Le Chattes Noires.
Erica forms significant bonds with her teammates. She persistently sees the good in the master thief Lobelia Carlini, softening her despite constant rejections. She also shares a close friendship with the aristocratic Glycine Bleumer, having recruited her as the second member of the team. She develops romantic feelings for Captain Ichiro Ogami, and her relationship with him is central to her growth as he helps her recognize her own strength. Later, she is temporarily appointed captain of the division but eventually resigns, realizing that the role of a captain does not suit her and that the team functions best without a formal hierarchical leader.
In combat, Erica pilots a red mecha and specializes in marksmanship with twin cross-shaped machine guns named Raphael and Gabriel. Her abilities are primarily those of a healer and support unit, using her divine spiritual power to restore her allies and unleash powerful attacks. In the rare moments when her true spiritual powers are awakened, she takes on a serious, angelic personality that contrasts sharply with her usual demeanor.
