Description
Orca is a player character who appears in the.hack//Unison special, set inside the massively multiplayer online game The World. In reality, he is Yasuhiko, a fourteen-year-old junior high school student and a close friend of Kite. It was Orca who convinced Kite to start playing The World, and the two often play together. Within the game, he is known as Orca of the Azure Sea, one of the Descendants of Fianna, and he plays the Blademaster class. His avatar is that of a burly, battle-scarred warrior with long hair that falls back from his face; most of his torso and face is covered in green paint, and white patterns cross his chest, legs, arms, and elbows.
In terms of personality, Orca is portrayed as an experienced, friendly, and unassuming player. He is remembered by other users for actively helping beginner players find their footing in The World, and he tends to avoid drawing a crowd to himself. When he and Balmung of the Azure Sky were rewarded with a pair of wings after destroying the event monster known as the One Sin, Orca gave the prize to Balmung, who used it to overwrite his character data and gain the wings. Orca attempted to strike Skeith, but his attack failed, and Skeith data drained him. As a result, the player behind Orca fell into a coma in the real world.
That incident marks the central turn in Orca's development. A capable warrior who once stood among the strongest players, he becomes a victim of the game's corruption and remains incapacitated for much of the story, only being revived with great difficulty during the final confrontation. In.hack//Unison, set after these events, Orca appears once more as a supporting figure among the players gathered at a pub in The World to await the start of an event, reunited with Kite, Balmung, and the other characters. In terms of notable abilities, he is a skilled close-range fighter with years of experience who can hold his own in dangerous encounters, though even his ability proves insufficient against Skeith.
