OVA
Description
Kodaka Hasegawa is the main protagonist of the series. He is a second-year transfer student at St. Chronica's Academy who quickly finds himself isolated after his classmates misjudge him as a violent delinquent based on his naturally blond hair and fierce appearance, traits he inherited from his late English mother. Despite this intimidating reputation, Kodaka is fundamentally calm, gentle, and kind-hearted. He possesses a balanced and grounded personality, which makes him the most socially competent member of the Neighbors Club and often places him in the role of the straight man who mediates the outlandish behavior of his peers. His primary motivation is the desire to form genuine friendships, a goal that leads him to co-establish the Neighbors Club alongside Yozora Mikazuki. Throughout the story, he acts as the club's stabilizing core, attempting to guide its various activities while navigating the complex romantic and interpersonal tensions that develop among its members. Kodaka is a highly capable cook, a skill he honed by caring for his younger sister Kobato, and he is also adept at defending himself due to years of being targeted by bullies. In the Add On Disc OVA, he exemplifies his role as the pragmatic initiator by suggesting the club write a collaborative round-robin story, a project he works to keep on track as each member adds their own idiosyncratic twists. His key relationships are central to the series. He shares an unresolved childhood bond with Yozora. His dynamic with Sena Kashiwazaki is complicated by an arranged engagement and genuine mutual affection. He is deeply protective of his sister Kobato and serves as an older brother figure to the young club advisor Maria Takayama. Over the course of the narrative, Kodaka undergoes significant development, evolving from a resigned and friendless loner into the emotional center of a tight-knit group. He learns to navigate the intricacies of love and friendship, though he frequently downplays his own awareness of others romantic feelings in order to protect the group's existing bonds. By the conclusion of the main story, he acknowledges his feelings for Sena and decides to renew the clubs charter as a lasting circle of friends, ultimately achieving the deep connections he originally sought.
