Description
Kyōsuke Kamijō is a supporting character in Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie Part 1: Beginnings. He is a middle school student with short, dirty-gray hair and gray eyes, and he is of medium height. He first appears in the story as a gifted violinist who has been hospitalized following a traffic accident that left him unable to move his fingers. Before the accident, his future as a musician seemed bright, and he was passionate about classical music. He is gentle and polite by nature, but after learning from doctors that his hand will likely never heal, he becomes deeply frustrated, moody, and self-destructive, falling into despair over the loss of his ability to play.
Kamijō is the childhood friend of Sayaka Miki, a classmate who visits him regularly in the hospital. The two share a close bond, and Sayaka is in love with him, though Kamijō does not seem to notice her feelings. He also has a female friend named Hitomi Shizuki, who later develops romantic feelings for him. Kamijō’s primary motivation is his desire to play the violin again, and his despair over this loss weighs heavily on the story. Sayaka, desperate to restore his hand, makes a contract with Kyubey to become a magical girl, using her wish to heal his injury. As a result, Kamijō recovers without ever learning the truth behind the miracle.
After his recovery, he begins attending school again on crutches and eventually regains full mobility. His relationship with Sayaka becomes strained as he grows absorbed in his own life and music, failing to notice her troubles or her deepening emotional distance. This distance grows further when Hitomi confesses her love to him, placing Sayaka in a painful position. Throughout the movie, Kamijō remains unaware of the sacrifices made for him and the turmoil he inadvertently causes. He has no supernatural abilities; his only notable talent is his skill as a violinist. His role in the story is that of a catalyst, whose injury and recovery drive key events in Sayaka’s arc and highlight the themes of wish, sacrifice, and unintended consequences.
