Description
Ai Fuyuumi is a central character in the romantic comedy anime and light novel series. She is a petite fifteen-year-old girl with long pink hair, which she often styles with a small red ribbon, and violet eyes. As a first-year high school student, she wears the standard school uniform along with an armband that signifies her role on the student discipline committee.

Ai’s personality is defined by a sharp contrast between her public persona and her private feelings. On the surface, she is a serious, ambitious, and strict enforcer of school rules, taking great pride in her position and often boasting about her popularity and achievements. She has a short temper and is known to shout or have outbursts when angered, particularly when she feels rules are being broken. However, this stern exterior conceals a classic tsundere nature. She is easily flustered, especially around the protagonist Eita Kidou, and has a notable, eccentric habit of suddenly running outside whenever she is overwhelmed by embarrassment or joy.

Her primary motivation stems from a deeply rooted childhood romance. Ten years before the story begins, Ai and Eita were classmates in kindergarten and close friends. During that time, she developed strong feelings for him, leading to a handmade marriage contract that she treasures as a sacred vow. Shortly after this promise, Ai was forced to move away due to her father’s job, leading to a separation of nearly a decade. Despite the passage of time and her family’s frequent relocations, her feelings for Eita never faded and only grew stronger. Upon reuniting with him in high school, she discovers that he has completely forgotten their childhood promise, which becomes a central source of conflict and her personal struggle.

In the story, Ai initially appears as an antagonist to the main group. As a member of the discipline committee, she moves to shut down the club founded by Masuzu Natsukawa, citing the disruptive behavior of its members. While her official reason is to maintain order, her actions are partly fueled by jealousy over seeing other girls, especially Masuzu and Chiwa Harusaki, getting close to Eita. After a summer class places her in the same group as Eita, the memories of their promise resurface, leading her to reverse her position. She reopens the club and joins it herself, taking on the role of its advisor to stay close to Eita and assert her claim as his fiancée.

Her key relationships are complex and drive much of the humor and drama. Her relationship with Eita Kidou is the most significant; she affectionately calls him Takkun and is fiercely determined to make him remember their promise and marry her. This puts her in direct rivalry with Chiwa Harusaki, another of Eita’s childhood friends. Ai often quarrels with Chiwa, partly because she feels her own longer history with Eita gives her seniority. She is suspicious of Masuzu Natsukawa’s fake relationship with Eita and is wary of her as a romantic rival. Despite this, she forms a mentor-like bond with the younger Himeka Akishino, who looks up to Ai as a Love Master and seeks her romantic advice. She also has a long-standing friendship with Kaoru Asoi, a friend from elementary school who sometimes assists Ai in her schemes to get closer to Eita.

Throughout the series, Ai shows development as she learns to navigate her feelings more openly. While she starts by hiding her true emotions behind a facade of strictness and even lies about having a college boyfriend named Michel, she gradually becomes more honest with herself and Eita. Her vulnerability is shown when her attempts to appear experienced in love backfire, causing her to break down in tears. Her perspective and backstory are explored in greater depth in a spin-off manga titled Ore no Kanojo to Osananajimi ga Shuraba sugiru Ai, where she serves as the protagonist.

In terms of notable abilities, Ai is academically gifted, ranking third in her grade level. She is also a talented cook, a skill that distinguishes her from the other female leads and aligns with her desire to be a good future wife. She keeps a notebook filled with her romantic delusions about her life with Eita, and she has a prized teddy bear named Murata, which represents an extension of her childhood attachment and imaginary boyfriend. Her verbal tic involves often ending her sentences with shi.
