Professeur Lecomte, known in the original Japanese version as Dr. Charles LeConte, is a supporting character in the anime Tico and Friends, also called Nanatsu no Umi no Tico. He is an older scientist and researcher with gray hair cut to ear length and dark eyes. He first appears as an old acquaintance of Scott Simpson, the marine biologist whose young daughter Nanami is the story's central figure, and his background is tied to the same scientific circles that Scott moves in. His defining characteristic is an intense obsession with the Luminous Whale, a rare and mysterious sea creature that Scott also spends years searching for. While Scott wants to study and protect the whale, LeConte's fixation leads him into an alliance with the Gaiatron Corporation and its director Adrienne Benex, who hope to capture the creature for their own commercial gain. Because of this alliance, he works on the opposite side of the search from Nanami and her father for much of the series, acting as a rival who uses his knowledge to help the corporation locate the whale.

In terms of personality, LeConte is driven above all by scientific curiosity and a desire to solve the mystery of the Luminous Whale. He is methodical, intelligent, and deeply absorbed in his research, to the point that his ambition clouds his judgment and leads him to cooperate with people whose motives are exploitative. He is not motivated by greed in the same way as Benex; rather, his pride and single-minded pursuit of discovery make him willing to overlook the consequences. His personal life reflects this imbalance, as he is the father of Thomas LeConte, a bright but introverted and lonely boy. The relationship between father and son is distant, and Thomas eventually leaves his father's side to join Nanami and her companions, hoping to prove himself in the wider world. This estrangement is an important part of LeConte's story, showing how his dedication to his work came at the cost of his family.

LeConte's development over the course of the series moves from opposition toward tragedy. In the original Japanese version, his story ends with his death during the later stages of the hunt for the Luminous Whale, and the episode dealing with the aftermath of that loss was omitted from the English dub, which also removed many of the series' death scenes. His scientific expertise remains his most notable ability: he has deep knowledge of the whale and of marine research, and he is capable of planning and carrying out difficult expeditions, which is why his help is valued by both the corporation he serves and the obstacles his old friend Scott must overcome. Ultimately, LeConte is portrayed as a gifted but flawed scholar whose obsession with one great discovery defines both his achievements and his downfall.
