Movie
Description
Professeur Chen, le caméraman, is the French-dubbed version of Professor Samuel Oak as he appears in the animated film Pokémon 3 - The Movie. In the French-language version of the film, the character is credited under this name, with the term caméraman reflecting his role as an observer and coordinator who follows the extraordinary events in the town of Greenfield from outside the affected area.

A distinguished Pokémon researcher from Pallet Town, Professor Chen is an established figure in the Kanto region, known for his scientific expertise and for supporting young trainers in their journeys. In this film, he travels to Greenfield together with Delia Ketchum, Ash's mother, because the two families have long been friends with the Hale family, whose young daughter Molly is at the center of the story. When Molly inadvertently summons the Unown, mysterious Pokémon that reshape reality, and when the illusionary creature Entei takes Delia away, Professor Chen becomes part of the response to the crisis.

His role in the story is that of a supportive adult figure working alongside Skyler, the assistant of the missing researcher Spencer Hale. Using a PokéGear communication device provided by the trainer Lisa, he stays in contact with Ash, Misty, and Brock as they venture into the crystal tower that has formed around the Hale manor. From his position on the outside, he helps the group follow the situation and provides a point of contact while the rescue of Delia and Molly unfolds. At the end of the film, once the Unown's power is reversed and Spencer Hale returns, he is among those who await the group outside.

His motivations are rooted in concern for his friends, a sense of scientific responsibility, and the desire to help resolve a crisis involving rare and dangerous Pokémon. He acts as a calm, knowledgeable presence, offering reassurance and practical assistance while the younger characters handle the dangers within the tower.

In terms of relationships, he shares a warm and familiar bond with Delia Ketchum and an old friendship with the Hale family. His connection with Ash reflects the mentor relationship established earlier in the animated series, where he gave Ash his first Pokémon and continued to offer guidance. He also cooperates closely with Skyler and works alongside Lisa during the events.

The film does not give him significant personal development; he appears as a steady supporting character whose expertise, composure, and observational role complement the main action. His notable abilities include his deep knowledge of Pokémon, his understanding of phenomena such as the Unown, and his effectiveness in coordinating communication and relaying information during the emergency. The cameraman label attached to his name in the French dub emphasizes this watching and reporting function within the story.
