Description
Nagihiko Fujisaki is a central figure in Shugo Chara!! Doki, known initially to his classmates under the female persona Nadeshiko Fujisaki. This dual identity stems from his family’s tradition in which male children are raised as girls from a young age so they can learn to portray female roles in kabuki theater. He first appears as the graceful and enigmatic former Queen’s Chair of the school’s Guardian organization, but is revealed to be a boy in episode twenty-five. After returning from a period of dance training in Europe, he assumes his true male identity and is appointed as the interim Jack Chair.
His personality is calm, cool-headed, and strategic, often taking the lead in planning how to deal with X Eggs and hostile characters. Beneath this composed exterior, he struggles with his own identity and hides his feelings, particularly a romantic interest in Amu Hinamori. He is loyal, optimistic, and protective of his friends, but dislikes being teased for having had to act like a girl and will firmly respond to anyone who mocks him. His motivations revolve around balancing his family’s traditions with his own desires, and he constantly works to regain confidence in himself and his abilities.
Nagihiko has two Guardian Characters. The first, Temari, is associated with his female persona and elegant dance; she returns to her egg after he loses confidence in his performance. The second, Rhythm, hatches when Nagihiko rediscovers his passion for basketball, playing at his own pace. Through Character Changes, Temari transforms him into a battle-hungry, streetwise personality who speaks with a Hiroshima dialect and wields a naginata, while Rhythm makes him an energetic, athletic prodigy skilled at any sport. His Character Transformations include Beat Jumper (with Rhythm) and Yamato Mai Hime (with Temari), each granting him powerful attacks such as Beat Dunk and Blaze Shoot. These transformations are closely tied to his emotional state, and he grows more effective as he reconciles his two identities.
Within the Guardians, Nagihiko is a key strategist and fighter, supporting Amu and the other members. He shares close bonds with Tadase Hotori, Kukai Soma, and Rima Mashiro, who are among the few aware of his secret. He initially introduces himself to Amu as Nadeshiko’s twin brother, and while he does not reveal the truth in the anime, he serves as a devoted friend who watches over her romantic life. His personal arc sees him move from insecurity to self-acceptance, culminating in Temari’s return and his ability to embrace both his refined dance roots and his more spontaneous, sports-loving side.
