Description
Busujima appears as a minor antagonist in the Beyblade: Metal Fusion anime, where he serves as the leader of a local gang that operates much like the Face Hunters, stealing points from other bladers and destroying their beyblades. His name, meaning poison island, complements his chosen beyblade, the venomous scorpion. In the manga version of the story, his role differs slightly as he is portrayed as a direct subordinate of the Dark Nebula organization, but in the anime, he acts independently with his own gang.
In terms of appearance, Busujima is a thin young man with a medium skin tone and a slim build. His dark hair is styled with spiky protrusions that resemble a scorpion's shell and a longer section at the back that mimics a scorpion's stinger. He typically wears a brick red jumpsuit under a short, open purple jacket with torn sleeves, large green pockets, and prominent spiked rings on the shoulders. He also wears spiked bracelets, brown fingerless gloves, and brown boots with metal coverings on the soles, toes, and heels. His launcher and bey holster are attached to a grey belt with a yellow crescent-shaped buckle. He is almost always seen with an evil or mocking smile on his face.
Personality-wise, Busujima is cruel, ruthless, and arrogant, driven by an obsession with victory at any cost. He consistently thinks about destroying his opponents rather than simply outmatching them in a fair competition. He enjoys taunting and mocking those he battles and is often found in dark, neglected places such as abandoned construction sites. Despite his confidence and the strength of his beyblade, he is not able to win most of his battles honestly and frequently resorts to cheating and underhanded tactics to secure a win, showing how his obsession with dominance outweighs any sense of fair play.
Busujima's primary motivation is to prove his dominance over other bladers and to build his reputation and power by stealing points and crushing opposing beyblades. He and his gang establish a temporary home base in a small town before the Battle Bladers tournament, seizing an old stadium from local children by force. When a young blader named Sora Akatsuki confronts him to reclaim the stadium, Busujima easily defeats and humiliates him. Recognizing Kenta Yumiya from television interviews and realizing the value of his Beypoints, Busujima escalates his scheme by kidnapping a child named Yui and destroying another child's beyblade to force Kenta to pay a ransom.
The rivalry between Busujima and Sora is a key part of his role in the story. Their rematch takes place in a stadium that Busujima has rigged specifically to favor his beyblade, even setting the stadium on fire to gain an advantage. However, Gingka Hagane arrives to clear the flames, allowing Sora to defeat Busujima in a fair battle after Yui is rescued by Kenta and the other children. Unlike the manga, where he has a longer history as a minion of Doji and is stepped on by Ryuga after losing, the anime sees Busujima retreat after his defeat. He does not qualify for the Battle Bladers tournament, but he is later seen celebrating Gingka's victory with his gang.
His key relationships include his antagonistic dynamic with Sora, who becomes his primary rival, and his role as the leader of his unnamed gang of followers, who assist him in his schemes. In later series, his development takes a positive turn. In Beyblade: Metal Masters, he competes in the preliminaries to become one of Japan's top bladers, achieving fifteenth place, and appears to have changed his ways, joining other bladers to wish Team Gan Gan Galaxy good luck. In Beyblade: Metal Fury, he makes a cameo appearance during the final battle, contributing his power alongside bladers from around the world to help defeat the ultimate antagonist, Nemesis.
Regarding his abilities, Busujima wields the beyblade Rock Scorpio T125JB in the anime. It features a scorpion beast as its power. His primary special move is Poison Drive, during which his beyblade attacks the opponent rapidly while its fusion wheel changes to an attack type. He is also associated with other finishing moves in various media, including Death Stalker and Acid Needle. In the manga, his beyblade is instead named Escolpio WD145B.
